If it is your first language, then I would recommend going to Amazon or Borders and picking up a book. It's usually not that expensive, but it will teach you the basics of the language and help you get started faster. However, there are plenty of tutorials on many different languages on the internet. The advantage of a book is a reference that you can quickly use and is in one place.
Once you know one language pretty well, it becomes easier and easier to learn additional languages, so you can use the internet to learn those.

Addendum:
http://www.w3schools.com/ is a great resource for web development, but that's not software engineering. You need to learn langauges such as C, C++, C#, Java. I'm an old-school C guy, that's what I prefer, but the languages of choice these days seem to be C#, Java, and C++(I love it too, but it seems to be losing favor).
Avoid Visual Basic at all costs!

It all depends upon your grasping ability. download e books using a peer to peer app ( Greek? google peer to peer) take print outs or read on the computer, obtain the required software, google for free tutorials and communities that cater to that particular language for additional help or platform. try to code in the language and you'll be fine. All the best! :)
