Some doctors think that irritable bowel syndrome ( also known as spastic colon ) may be second only to common cold as America's most widespread medical complaint. And your doctor now says that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS ) is the source of your complaint.Well, rest assured that there are lot of things you can do to take the irritability out of your bowel.
Take the news in stride. " There's a very good connection between stress and an irritable bowel" says Douglas A Drossman,M.D., a gastroenterologist and psychiatrist at the University of Northern Corolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. What you don't want to do is get stressed because you have an irritable bowel, and because you have an irritable bowel, and thereby create a "vicious cycle",he says.Especially during flare-ups of abdominal pain,it is important to "take a deep breath.Think about what's happening. Recognize that it's happened before and it will pass.Know that you're not going to die - becouse people don't die from an irritable bowel" he says.
Become a more relaxed person. Anything you do can do to help yourself unwind should help to alleviate your symptoms, says Dr.Drossman. You may benifit from relaxation techniques, such as medication, self - hypnosis,or biofeedback. If the stress in your life is particularly problematic, you may want to consider psychological counseling. The key is to find what works for you.
Keep a stress diary.
Log in your food and beverages intake too.
Add fiber to your diet.
Call psyllium seed to the rescue,an easy way to increase the fiber intake in your food.
Drink lots of fluid to keep your bowels moving smoothly, you need not only fiber, but fluids as well.
Reconsider your dairy products.
Cut out the fat.
Pass on the gas - avoid flatulence champs as beans, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and onions.
Go easy on bran.
Beware of spicy foods.
Be careful of acids.
Don't brew trouble with coffee.
Know that some alcoholic beverages are worse than others.
Put out the cigarette.
Avoid nicotine gum.
Eat regular meals.
Go for a jog.
Try a pain killer
Try putting a hot water bag on your tummy, says Dr.Snape.
( Hope these tips will cure you )

The first thing to consider is--what is causing your problem. Symptoms are important for diagnosis and remedial treatment. The colon is the final part of your intestines...to have problems there could be something serious, like polyps, bleeding, or chronic constipation. You really need to put your question in a clearer way.
Intestinal health comes to each person through his way of eating, drinking and exercising. Not drinking enough fluids, a diet lacking in fiber, sitting for long periods of time...all contribute to intestinal problems. Other factors include taking anti-biotics, which get rid of the bad AND good bacteria. The good bacteria can be replaced with an item found in health food stores, called a pro-biotic. They are made to stay intact until they enter the intestines, where they are able to "repopulate" your intestines with good bacteria that are needed for proper assimilation of your food.
That's just a little of what needs to be studied to have a healthy intestinal system. It's not a simple matter. You may be able to get answers from these people, but if your problems are long-time or in a serious state, I strongly recommend that you visit an internist for some tests. Proper diagnosis will stop your guessing and wondering.
There are certain intestinal problems that would be aggrevated by too much fiber, or the wrong kind of fiber. But water, cellulose fiber (doesn't cause bloating), and pro-biotics should all be safe till you decide whether or not to visit a doctor.
If you cannot afford a doctor visit, try drinking more water, add a cellulose fiber to relieve constipation, take a pro-biotic supplement for a week or two, exercise whenever you can, and eat more fruit and vegetables than you do meat. When you eat grains, make sure they're whole grain.

for proper colon health, you should always include fiber, water, lots of fruits vegies, and whole grains. You should try to avoid processed foods as much as possible, they can cause problems or excacerbate them especially if you don't have enough fiber in your diet, Also remember to always consult your doctor with health problems.

the answer to this depends on what type of intestinal problem you are having. Could you be more specific? Are you constipated? Do you have irritable bowel syndrome? I would be happy to answer your question with more information.
