It depends on what you eat, if you eat only fruit (no bananas) it'll take 30 minutes to leave your stomach, eggs, cereal etc will stay longer. On the regular cycle you should eat every 4 hours. 9am ,1pm, 5pm. Now if you would eat breakfast at 7 am, you should have an apple at 10am, eat lunch at 12 pm, eat another piece of fruit at 3pm and have dinner at 6pm. This way you keep your blood sugar on a good level and it prevents overeating or binging at dinner. Plus your energy doesn't get the 3 pm blahs.

How long does it take food to digest?
The stomach holds a little under 2 quarts (1.9 liters) of semidigested food. That food remains in the stomach for three to five hours. The stomach slowly releases food to the rest of the digestive tract. Fifteen hours or more after the first bite started down the alimentary canal (digestive tract, which begins at the mouth), the final residue of the food is passed along to the rectum and is excreted through the anus as feces.

It depends on what you eat for breakfast, some foods realise their energy more slowly and therefore you will feel less empty.
