My thyroid was removed 20 yrs. ago; hence, something in my brain tends to hyperfocus on certain details. I am getting treatment for this and aim every day to rise above it. However, it comes out when my boyfriend, who says I am the one, are talking. He has a daughter. Wouldn't a man be wary of exposing a child to this kind of thought process? One detail - his wife died 7 years ago because she did not talk about her problems and overdosed on prescription drugs. I appreciate your advice and comments! Thank you8.

You know, there are medications that will balance your hormones. So take them. If you are already on medication for your lack of thyroid, then it has nothing to do with with your hyper-focus. You probably have OCD. There are medications for that, too. You make it sound like you are a wigged-out freak. Expose his daughter to WHAT thought process? Do your emotions go to extremes? You could be bipolar, if that's the case. Medications for that as well. Everything is treatable. Get some therapy.....for all 3 of you.

Obsessive tendancies, or hyperactivity, can be a symptom of high T3 and T4 levels, or might be a secondary effect caused by an overall lack of sleep due to high thyroid hormones. You probably need your medications adjusted. This can be easily confirmed by a blood test for T3, T4, and TSH.

Or you may simply have OCD. this can be treated with antidepression drugs, though the fact that you are also taking thyroid hormones may pose some problems.

But to answer your question, though dealing with OCD can sometimes be hard on friends and family, from your description, it does not sound very severe. What is painfully obvious to you, may only be a slight annoyance to others; or they may not even notice. My guess is that your boyfriend cares about you very much and probably doesn't mind your personality "quirks" at all. If you are getting enough proffesional help, and your condition is not getting in the way of your ability to function, I would not worry about it too much.

You need an evaluation from a mental health professional.

My man walked out on me when I got sick, after 15 years. Count your blessings.

sounds like he's typical needy man that can't function without a woman doing everything for so he's willing to settle for you...
