no - there has to be a substantial amount of the drug in your system to make you fail. drug tests and lab tests have a cut-off for positive results, and even if you ate a truckload of poppy seeds they arent potent enough to make you fail.

seriously, i'm telling you its bull. they test for opiates - yes, but they test for the ingredients other than opium used to make heroin, morphine, etc. any 'false' positive result from a drug test is automatically sent to a lab where they can determine that it was just poppy seeds on a bagel.

They covered this one on Mythbusters and the answer turns out to be yes. They ate poppyseed bagels and cakes and then did drug tests and it did show opiates. I think that there was a difference between the two because bagels had less poppy seeds but they both had false positives.

In fact, there have been lawsuits from people who sued because they were fired from where they worked because of false positives on their drug tests. Some of these were due to poppy seed.

No, eating poppy seeds on a bagel won't make you fail a drug test. Plus drug tests these days look for high levels of drugs. Pardon me but poppy seeds won't make you pop dirty! I use to work in a prison, they gave us random drug tests. One of the machines in our lounge sold poppy seed muffins. Believe me all of us asked that question right away, no one wanted to be fired for eating a poppy seed muffins.

I watched a mythbusters type program which gave a poppy seed coated bagel to a priest then tested him. It said he would have failed a drug test due to opiates....

I have read that if you ingest enough of them they may cause a positive result for opium derivatives. I have never seen any kind of proof of this though.
