I cannot stress enough how important it is to eat fruit and veg every day, like you as a teenager I literally ate no fruit or veg, this carried on to my twenties and early thirties and as a result of this I was constantly run down, had little energy and caught every flu or virus going but worse of all I suffered terrible constipation, which (foolishly) I "cured" by taking more and more laxatives every day, eventually even laxatives stopped me going to the loo and after months of rather unpleasant tests and examinations, the only option for me was a total colectomy i.e removal of large intestine. So now at 37 I have a stoma bag which I can assure you is no fun at all!
I know I may have been extremely unlucky and what happened to me is possibly very rare but is it worth risking your health!?
If I were you I,d start drinking fresh orange juice (not concentrate). What about making your own smoothies? Banana, pear, oranges and yoghurt blended is delicious, one of these every day would give you your required fruit intake and could you not mix veg in with your regular food? Or try adding a sauce to your veg, munch raw carrots, celery etc.
Please give it a go because as people rightly say "your health is your wealth" Good Luck!

Fruit and veg is part of a balance diet. Have you not seen all the adverts promoting 5 a day!!! There are so many different kinds you really should be able to find something you like the taste of. I can't believe your parents have allowed you to go on for this long without eating Fruit and Veg. What about a fruit smoothie, really tatsy and soooo nutritious. Go on be brave experiment...food should be interesting an varied and you are closing so many tasty possibilites by not trying it.

he'll eat if he's hungry. gravy is good I'd say it's time he was off the breast at least during the day TBH, he really doesn't need it nutritionally (he might in a 3rd world country, but he isn't; he's in the land of clean water, pasteurised milk and food processors). If drinks during the day were from a mug he'd have more room for food, and develop better mealtime social skills. He also need to be learning to cope with food that has lumps. He can obviously do finger food, so what's wrong with sausages and fish fingers? I suspect he's not so much being fussy as lazy. Does he sit up to the table with everyone else at mealtimes? That makes a vast difference generally.

If you have seen a nutritionist and they say you are OK then you probably are. But I think subconsciously you want to change the way you are. If that is right the only way you can do it is to try new things. Maybe you could try small amount of new foods. You never know you may even like some of them

I too am a really fussy eater. As were my two brothers. Except they grew out of it in their teens and have a preety normal diet now. Me though, I have remained fussy and I am now 29. If it really concerns you and you find it difficult to try new foods (like me) then get in contact with your doctor and see if you can be referred to some specialist who can help you overcome your fussy eating. I am very fearful of trying new foods, and as much as people try to get me to try new foods I can't bring myself to do it!! It sounds crazy I know and find it really frustrating how people just do not understand how difficult it is to try new foods. My mum constantly took me and my brothers to the doctors when we were younger as she was concerned about our fussy eating, but any suggestions the doctor made failed. I think the more pressure people put on you to eat, the more difficult it becomes. It will be hard to eat foods that you dislike but with some kind of intervention it is possible to reduce the anxiety associated with particular foods. Which is what fussy eating is really. Although I am a fussy eater I am not really overly concerned. I just take multi-vitamin and mineral supplements to ensure I am getting the nutrients that I may be missing out on. And although I do not like any vegetables I do like fruit. I suggest you try some. Surely you must like orange juice.

Surely you can come to like some fruits and veggies....get creative - you dont have to eat them by themselves. Try sliced mushrooms, olives, green peppers on pizza, eat tomato (or vegetable) soup, try veggies dipped in ranch sauce, make fruit smoothis in the blender, you get the idea. You just haveto find ways of eating them that suits you.

it will probably catch up with you as you age. take a really good multiple vitamin to get the nutrients you need. I like the V8 juices. they give you the vitamins and minerals and taste pretty good. also there are flavored waters that add nutrients. they have vitamin c added or other things.
