Find something else to focus your attention on. my mother swears by trying to wiggle her left big toe! It sounds silly, but it works.

I totally understand how you feel I think you should look at the needle instead of closing your eyes because when you focus on the area its not so bad and you should talk to your doctor while he or she is giving you this needle. In case you didn't know needles are long and big like they use to be. They are short and small and you can't hardly feel them don't worry you will be fine.

There is a numbing cream that you can buy at the pharmacy. I don't remember the name but if you go to the prescription counter, they'll be able to give it to you (it's not Ambesol or anything like that). It's quite expensive ($13 for a tube the size of a battery) but it works, we used it when my 6 year old had her ears pierced, she didn't even blink.

If you are going to a doctor's office, ask if you can get some EMLA cream applied to your skin to help numb it. Practice some meditation and breathing techniques to help you deal with the anxiety of getting the shot.

You can actually put A numbing medication like Anbesol (for gum pain) on the site a few minutes before the shot & it will numb it.

lightly pinch the skin where the injection is going to be given (of course at the time of the injection) and breathe and don't look it's not really that bad.....
