Add my Yes to the Lakes, though more Coniston and Ullswater than Windermere. My yes to Scotland too, though more Skye and Ballachulish than Wick and Inverness thankyou.
Special places because of their spiritual vibrations: Iona, Tiberias in Galilee, Encinitas in S California.
For pure natural beauty, Utah ~ Moab and Kanab and all that's between them, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Arches nat park, Dead Horse Point etc. Also White Sands in New Mexico. A special word too for the baobab country of the northern Transvaal and for the Kruger Park and the Drakensburg Mts in the eastern Transvaal.
For the people and their large hearts, Crete. Tip: learn a couple of dozen words of Greek; and get away from the tourist traps and the sunset strips.

Thailand,
Why,
Well for me Thailand has Everything, I think a place can have good weather, beautiful scenery and a fantastic culture but,
( Thailand has all these and more BTW) its the people who make a country good or bad and in Thailand I have met some of the most fantastic, friendly and genuine people on the planet IMHO.

Cornwall is special to me.
Both my parents were evacuated to cornwall during the war, they were actually staying one street away from each other, though they never met as kids.
We always went to Cornwall for family holidays because mum and dad had such great memories of being evacuated, so my husband and I have always gone there too. We had our honeymoon in Cornwall and when I die, I want my ashes to be scattered in the sea off the coast of Mevagissy.

Mine will have to be Tokyo beach in Japan. its the most beautiful thing ive seen, you stand in facing the pacific, and its all anger and force lapping on the beach, all things that nature is meant to be with this underlying beauty it emmits as well.
but if you turn head a few notches you see the massive skyscrapers that man has built and its this ultimate synergy in which they both work so beautifully..also the fact the people, culture, lifestyle is second to none helps as well....

I concur with your first 2 choices, imparticular Fife, St. Andrews they rarely get bad weather there, oh and Dumfries and Galloway. But we once spent a rather dismal week in Laugharne where Dylan Thomas lived and worked, admittedly we didn't see a bit of sun, it rained continuously.

My old house.
I lived there for about six years, but I moved out when i was about 9, four years ago.
I love it so much because it was quite big, and my Uncle lived there with us. And my Daddy lived there aswell.
I remember loads of fun stuff that happened there, like a time when my friend stood on a jam tart in my room and it went in the carpet and it would never come out. And when my friend and I wore out trousers on our arms, shirts on our legs and knickers on our heads and thought it was a really good idea to go outside and show my mum. And in the garden when I was jumping on the trampoline and my Daddy blasted me with the hose pipe and I fell off onto the grass and was covered in grass, and found it hilarious to hug my mum and get her covered. And I was really proud because I found out about my Daddys affair in that house, before my mum, and I have never told her. And I learnt to ride a bike, and roller skate in that house. And I kept cheeseybugs for pets in my porch and when my mum found out she screamed so loud. And in that house, at Christmas, I banned ever saying the little green vegtable that looks like a cabbage that is spelt like 'brusel sprat' and I am the only one out of about six people that hasn't said it once for about five years.
I also love the house that I had before that because that was the first house I can remember living in. And my sister was born when I lived in that house and I remember holding her for the first time in the front room. And I remember playing 'The Carrot Game' with my Daddy in that house, where we just put carrots in our mouths and poked eachother with them.
Thanks for asking.. Made me remember some good stuff.
