p.s.- No ridiculous ghost comments please .

I rescued a TV from the garbage that was doing the same thing. When you turned it on, it was good for about 15 minutes then it would turn itself off. What had happened was a capacitor on the circuit board had cracked. When the TV was on, the circuit board would warm up and the crack would widen, preventing the flow of electricity and effectively turning the TV off. The circuitboard would immediately cool off so the TV would start again. It's a two-minute fix with a soldering gun.

Here's your problem, the repairman will charge you $5 to solder the capacitor back together, plus another $95 for knowing what a capacitor is and where it is inside the TV. I have a friend who is handy at electronics repair, so fixing the TV for me was the smart choice. You on the other hand, should consider what kind of a TV you can buy for $100. If the broken TV is better than what you can buy for $100, then have the TV fixed (who knows, you might even get a better price).

Oh, and the environmentally friendly thing to do is have the TV repaired too, since that means one less TV ending up in a landfill somewhere.

I had a TV that did that but only when I turned it on at the TV itself. Something was sticking so I'd have to very gently press the button & it would stay on. I'm not sure if yours is the same problem, since most people always use their remote to turn the TV on, but if it is then try doing that. Or it could be some kind of power surge. Do any lights flicker or digital clocks reset themselves when the TV turns off?

I had a tv do that about 5 years ago. I think I just got rid of it. It was an old tv. Maybe your tv's time is up. Depends on how old the tv is. Is it worth the $ to repair or just replace it.
