I took this photo:

And turned it into this:

using photoshop. It was quite simple (shadows/highlights and layers to get the black and white. Now my question to you is do you like the photoshoped version. I'm deff going to print it out, i just like hearing other's opinions.

And yes, I took the picture. It's the 101 Ranch in Northern California

okay, to comment back to a lot of you.

The black and white was kinda necessary at the bottom because of the almost complete lack of color detail. I played around with it for awhile before I gave up and just put it to black and white. I will continue to play with it just to see what I could do.

Kitt- while normally I do not like to use photoshop besides the levels, contrast, and cropping, I was just playing around to see what I could do. If I was talented enough, and these were negative prints instead of digital, i could do most of this in a darkroom. So is that to be considered cheating? Is any type of vaguely manipulated photo considered cheating? You would be surprised at the number of high end photographers who 'cheat'. some of them legends.

Listy, I liked both! I love to capture sunsets also. Your natural colors were great. The second photo shows a very warm depth of field, very hard to capture in low light conditions. I've been at it for 30 yrs. and I still use my old trusty Nikon F2. Its a standard non-automatic camera. I have one eye on the new D-80 but I'm afraid of a loaded digital camera. Keep up the wonderful work!

I like being able to see the foreground, but, I do not like the black and white vs the color in the sunset. It confuses my senses in a way sort of like motion sickness.

i like the contrast between the black and white and the little bit of color from the sunset in the middle.
Very nice work ^_^

maybe you could combine the two. i would probably layer them and then just erase part of it so you have the sky from the original but the foreground from the edited. very nice job though.
