I am 15 years old, turning 16 in May. I am in the AFJROTC(Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) @ my school. This program teaches us aviation history, leadership, drill, and much mored. My teacher wants to send me to a drill camp at Norwich University in Vermount. Here the thing, I need to raise $500-$600 dollars by the end of June. My parents dont have this kind of money though. Any ideas that could help me?

P.S. - I also plan on going job hunting the day I turn 16.

Well the drill camp cost $1,000, my AFJROTC is payin for half of it so I have to pay the rest and plus I have to pay spending money. I have my working papers for 15 already.

I really wanted to get a paper route, but I live in the country so it's really not an option.

congratulations! i'd first contact organizations in my area, if i were you. look into rotary clubs - see if they have any type of scholarship or assistance. check out the website of the drill camp too. or call them to see if they have any ideas on where you might get some free funding to attend.

it wouldn't be a bad idea to find a part-time job too. you have plenty of time to find one and start saving. sometimes newspaper routes (even though they are old-fashioned) are really good ways for young people to earn some money. or look into jobs at your city's recreation department, if they have one.

sometimes you can find jobs at restaurants before you turn 16. my first job was as a busperson at a restaurant, and i was only 15. it depends on your state's laws about working papers (which you get from your high school). ask your guidance counselor about it. ask your guidance counselor if they know of any funding options for you too.

have a great time!

Talk to your neighbors about doing odd jobs. Shovel snow, help put in their garden, mow the lawn etc. Tell them what it is for.

Asking for a handout from a local club is OK (have your teacher write the letter), but don't waste time. Start earning money now in case they can't help you.
