Go to the link below, they have all these brilliant privately owned cottages through the UK. Its a great way to just hide away from the world in your own space. We went last Easter to one in Dorset and I don't think I've ever been so relaxed, it was amazing.

Get the boat over to Northern Ireland, the north coast in particular is worth a visit. stay in Portstewart or Coleraine (NOT portrush), everywhere is fairly accessible from there. Portstewart is a more picturesque town but Coleraine will prob be cheaper & its only like 4 miles away. Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge etc are all near here, but can be busy at weekends. Highly recommend the hills round Downhill strand & Castlerock, Mussenden temple etc. For shopping, Derry & Belfast are roughly 90mins in each direction. Train journey to Derry especially recommended. Eat at the Harbour in Portrush - long wait but definitely worth it.

(and i'm not from northern ireland so this is a totally objective view!)

enjoy your weekend!

There are some nice hotels , in the northwest which are like stately homes there out in the countryside with lots to offer , if that's the kind of thing your looking for, not cheap mind but worth it, some have leisure facilities, i know 1or2 that have quad biking and that sort of thing , just look up on the Internet!

If you're going North west I guess you'd be looking towards the lake district, or you could try Chester. Both very pretty and very different, so it would depend on whether you wanted bright...ish lights, or good walks!

I've been booking last minute breaks with Anderson Tours - good quality, cheap prices and the people who travel on them are friendly. I did Paris last weekend for 159 which was pretty good.

It depends on where you live and how far you want to travel to get there, if it is just a weekend thing and you dont wanna go to far then i would need to know where you live to answer that question, i live close to Hilton head and that is where i go for my weekends, also savannah, its nice and very inexpensive.
