I'd say central park but you'd probably get arrested or have your throat slit or something...Why not get a ride witha pal out of the city, then hitchike your way to some out of the way forest... chance is nobody will care you're there.

Take the train out Long Island. Suffolk County has a few parks you can camp in. I'm not sure of the stops but it's doable.

And below is the NY state parks answer.
Wildwood sounds cool if you can reach it. "Wildwood State Park comprises 600 acres of undeveloped hardwood forest terminating on the high bluff overlooking Long Island Sound. Trailer and tent sites are available for campers. Swimmers can take advantage of the cool waters of the Sound, and picnickers can relax at shaded picnic tables as their children enjoy the nearby playground. Visitors can fish and use the hiking and cross-country ski trails. Fall Festival first weekend in October.
