I'm getting a Miniature Pinscher soon and I need to know more about them. Are they really aggresive? Are they
good toward children,strangers,and older people?

I own 2 of them 7 they are both great. My male was scared by a child so he is very unsure of kids I am correcting that now and he is getting better & will play with kids now. My female loves kids. They get along with cats & other animals. They are great watch dogs 7 always let me know if there is a stranger at the door. The both love my grandma & love to give kisses. They a jokers. You should crate this dog when not at home or you are sleeping. They are very curious & check out everything. They must be kept in a fenced in yard 6foot fence they are great jumpers or on a leash at all times the are ratters so they will chase anything they see running. I love both of my min pins they are a great companion. any more ? don't be afraid to ask me.
They can be yappy if you let them. Neither of my dog are, I taught them when they were young no bark. They only bark when a stranger is at the door & then I tell them no bark & they quiet down. put them in a puppy class.
Check out Cesar Millan can be very helpful, Man is brilliant.

Never let your child or anyone run up or yelling to animals . Never show fear. Animals sense this and they think you have something to hide so they go into defense mode and will protect them selves or their family at any cost. You see an animal you want to pet walk up calmly to the owner (do not make eye contact with the animal don't even acknowledge the animal) & ask if its okay to pet their dog.

Socialize your animal around all different kinds of things people other animals loud noises , different surfaces. Dogs need to walk for an hour at least , some breeds need more walks then others , size & energy you have to take into account. Play time , training & they should be crated . Dogs are den animals & when you are not at home or you are sleeping they should be crated or sectioned of to only one part of the house. Dogs have to have rules. You should always look into what kind of dog will fit with your family & lifestyle & that you are going to keep the dog & healthy & loved for its entire life span.(I do understand that some times things can't be helped you should count on that before you get animal & have a plan so the dog doesn't get put into a shelter.)

Best wishes to all

If this is your first dog I would not recommend the breed. Although they are loving, cuddly, smart, and funny... getting to that point can be a lot of work.

Min Pins get into everything, are difficult to housetrain, and can be aggressive and possessive of their owners and territory. They are not good towards strangers or other dogs, especially when you are walking them on a leash. With children, it depends on how much exposure you give the dog to kids.

I've owned dogs my whole life, and my min pin was a struggle for about 1.5 years. She bit a 12 year old, dug out from under my backyard fence, and destoyed every single pair of shoes that I own. Because of the fact I love dogs I was willing to hire a trainer to work with me at home and get past these issues.

Now, my min pin's only destructive behavior is eating tissues which I can live with. She is my companion at night snuggling in bed and makes me laugh with her antics! Although she gets along great with my other dog, she still shows aggressive behavior towards new dogs so I can't bring her to the dog park or walk her in the neighborhood during peak dog walking hours.

She is good with kids, but I know her limits. If she is napping in her crate or pet bed the children have to know this is a no-no time and they should not disturb her at that time. Same thing goes for when she is on my lap and a child approaches us.

I love my min pin and wouldn't trade her for the world, but know that this is a difficult breed and you must be ready to put in some time and money to making your new pet a positive part of your life.

Definately do your research before bringing home a Min Pin!!

I own a Min-Pin, and from my experience, they are a "more bark than bite" type. They can be very playful, obedient, and fun to have. But on the other hand, they do retain the territorial mindset of their full-size counterpart and are very loud, especially toward strangers. At their worst, they can be annoying (which I'd take over dangerous any day) when they're barking excessively.

Overall, it mostly depends on how you raise it, but they make good dogs indoors or outdoors. I'd say they're more hyper than aggressive.

I have a 7 lb. min pin.
Mine however, doesn't bark very often. Out of the year I've had her I've only heard her bark about 5 times. I guess by seeing what everyone else has written, this isn't normal for a min pin.
She's very playful and tends to cling to those she knows. The only negative trait she has is that she is extremely stubborn.
Other than that, I'd definitely recommend getting one.

Every single one I have ever met is nervous and yappy. They tend to be very terrritorial. However, they do get affectionate towards thier owners and people they see a lot. The one that lives above me and has for nearly two years still goes nuts barking everytime i walk outside and it's in it's yard. They are adorable and sweet but the ones I know are not good with strangers.

i think, however, if you walk it a lot and it sees a lot of strangers it wont have such a problem.

good luck!! great breed!

They can be great dogs as long as they are properly socialized from puppyhood.

Most of the Mini's I've met are extremely affectionate and love to cuddle. They usually have a favorite person and want to be right beside them, on them or in bed with them.

Most of the Mini's I've met are also barkers - not a good dog if you live in an apartment - but proper training can help :)

My husband and I adopted a 8 month old Min-Pin. She was three pounds when we got her, but then gained weight. she ended us being 7 pounds. This little Min-Pin became a very loving support animal for my legally blind husband. The have to be taught how to act around others. They are very smart and know if they have to step in to protect their master. Good luck.

You're getting one soon and you're just asking these questions now?

Anyway, I dug up a good site that answers some of your questions along with some really important information on this breed: http://www.rescueeverydog.org/min_breed.html

Next time, research before-hand so you'll know what you're getting into.
