First of all, what is hell? The hell of torment in fire is just a christian's invention, from the new testament. Why would children go there? Well, there are children that are very wickedly evil and that is where they belong with the wicked and evil. Maybe that is the hell you are talking about?

The one passage that seems to identify with this topic more than any other is 2 Samuel 12:21-23. The context of these verses is that King David committed adultery with Bathsheba, with a resulting pregnancy. The prophet Nathan was sent by the Lord to inform David that because of his sin, the Lord would take the child in death. David responded to this by grieving, mourning, and praying for the child. But, once the child was taken, David's mourning ended. David's servants were surprised to hear this. They said to King David, "What is this thing that you have done? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept; but when the child died, you arose and ate food." David's response was, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows, the LORD may be gracious to me, that the child may live.’ But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me." David's response can be seen as an argument that those who cannot believe are safe in the Lord. David said that he could go to the child, but that he could not bring the child back to him. Also, and just as important, David seemed to be comforted over this. In other words, David seemed to be saying that he would once again see the child (in heaven), though he could not bring him back.

I believe it is the uniform testimony of Scripture that those who are not capable of making a decision to receive Jesus Christ, and who have died, are now with Christ in heaven, resting in His tender arms, enjoying the sweetness of His love. There are numerous factors supporting this viewpoint.
It is highly revealing that in all the descriptions of Hell in the Bible, we NEVER read of infants or little children there. Only adults capable of making decisions are seen there. Nor do we read of infants and little children standing before the Great White Throne judgement, which is the judgement of the wicked dead and the precursor to the lake of fire (Rev 20:11-15). The complete silence of Scripture regarding the presence of infants in eternal torment militates against their being there.
Jesus and the children. As we examine instances in which Christ encountered children during His earthly ministry, it would seem that children have a special place in His kingdom. Jesus even said, "Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Mat 18:3) He also said, "Whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me (verse 5). I don't think there is any way someone could read through Matthew 18 and conclude that it is within the realm of possibility that Jesus could damn such little ones to hell!

What could a child possibly do in it's short life to go to hell? I truly believe God has a special place for children. A child is always a product of it's environment and God knows that.

The Bible does not say "children go to Hell", it says that "for such is the Kingdom of Heaven". Hell is for those who never come to saving faith in Jesus Christ... Children, at least very young ones, lack the age, and mental faculties to be held accountable for their "sins" in my view. God has all those things well in control. Your question is asked in such a way that you feel we should be glad God sends some children to Hell... that is the most horrible thing I can imagine.

As for the person who said that God told his followers to kill their children, God did tell one of his followers to take his son to the mountain and kill him but He stopped him before he did it. God would never ask someone to kill their child.
And no children will go to hell because they are too young to understand what exactly sin is. They are too innocent and young and are not evolved enough in their faith to understand the main details about the Bible. God knows and understands this and when a child dies he/she is brought to heaven.

Because children are innocent and not punished in God's eyes. Read your bible.

Because children are innocent and not old enough yet to know the difference between good and evil.

Interesting answers above me, however ifthat is the case, how do you explain god telling his chosen followers to kill children as he did many times?
