She's eleven months old and my parents are really worried that the whole house is going to smell like her. I'm afraid if I bathe her too much her coat or skin will ge too dry. Those familiar with the breed know that Chesapeakes have a sort of musty dog odor within a week or two of being bathed.

You won't necessarily dry out your dog's skin by giving him frequent baths. Try a weekly, or every other week bath with a mild Oatmeal shampoo. Your dog may do just fine. If your really concerned they also make conditioners for dogs as well. If his skin starts to dry out just increase the amount of time between baths so his natural oils have time to catch up.

You're absolutely right - bathing her too often will dry her coat and skin terribly! It would help her if you gave her either 1 tablespoon of veg. oil on her food daily, or better yet, a salmon oil capsule daily. It's terrific for both skin and coat! Then you can try using dry shampoo on her occasionally between baths - that'll help the odor.

Chesapeake retrievers are amazing! I love the breed. I don't own one, but i might when im older. Brogan is a cute name! I am very confused!! i heard that also....i really really hope not.

Your dogs odour has alot to do with what food they are on. Try a all natural food, with no additives or preservatives. Also bath your dog with an oatmeal shampoo, and dry them fully. Wet fur always carries an odour. Try Natural Balance dog food, nothing added to it, all natural ingredients

Water is not going to hurt a chessie. Bathe her. You needed to check the breed she can handle water everyday and you better have a lot of it. It is a water dog. I can't believe she doesn't play in her water bowl.

All dogs sweat and have a natural smell. I bathe my 3 dogs every other week. Before company comes over- I spray them with Febreeze a little. They love it, I just dont go near their faces.

daily brushing,,,, also, make sure she doesn't have an ear infection and/or impacted anal glands.... you could also try switching food etc. to my knowledge,, Chessies do not normally smell........
