I have been suffering from severe depression for a few months now. I have been taking medication, I've went to see a therapist. I've even stayed in the psych ward at the hospital for a while, and released even though I still wasn't well. I want to know if there's anything else I can do to help myself get better, or if I just have to simply "wait it out".

Sounds like you need a different med or another med besides the one you are taking. You should not have to wait out depression as it is very treatable. Consider going back to your doctor or maybe finding a new doc to help you treat this.

Maybe you should have stayed a little longer at the psych ward.
Was it your idea to leave? Maybe you should ask them to help you a little long, even if it's on an out patient basis. You should feel more secure about it than you do. Don't leave it alone if you feel like you need help.
Good Luck.

I haven't tried this but its certainly worth a try.Go and find a volunteer job in your city, that helps other people. Its said that if you can help someone else it does something to you inside, probably something about your endorphins. Another thing I would try is, and is working really well for many people is , try laughing real hard for 20 minutes, I beleive. This affects your endorphins also. They say even if there is nothing to laugh about , belly laugh as hard as you can. This particular article said view some real funny videos and laugh.Go to the internet and look up' laughing for depression' or something to that effect. Good luck.

Maybe its not just depression, or maybe it is. depending how long you have been on your medication( medication can take up to 2 months to see good effects) you might want to try another medication. The medication might be working on the wrong receptors. If you have been only taking your meds for a little while give it a little more time...couple more weeks.

Change your enviornment. Go for a walk somewhere quiet. Look at something thats very small. Try and clear your mind of anything that has to do with your daily life. Relax. But don't contemplate existance, and don't take a gun.

heres what I was told
exercise everyday
try and get out in the sun (if its dark where you live try and go to a tanning bed for 5 minutes)
when it gets really bad try and distract yourself or just take up a new activity
try and plan something every week to look forward to!

BEST OF LUCK

I hope you're in counseling and on medication too. If not, talk to your doctor.
Also, join some groups and do activities that you like.
You can do some volunteer work too. That can eally help you feel better about yourself.
Good luck.
