The reality is all of the above with proper caveat:

You will need to change your behavior and lifestyle on a permanent basis to incorporate any meaningful changes. So,

1) Do it slowly, replacing what is bad for you with what is good for you
2) Once you do (1) keep slowly increasing the level of exercise and physical activity and healthy food and reduce the unhelathy food.
3) Do not go Cold Turkey - take some days off for recuperation of muscles and treat is an earned reward. Eat some foods you like that aren't healthy on occasion so that you won't miss them incredibly much and ,again, treat it as something you reward yourself for good behavior.
4) Don't expect results. Be happy when it comes, but don't watch the water boil in the pot, it never will if you do.

To exercise often (3 to 4 times a week)
To eat right: vegetables, protein, carbohydrates little fat, (less than 10% of your daily intake), avoid sugar, pastry, cakes, fries, etc. (avoid alcohol, or be very moderate with it)

Find a sport or exercise routine you enjoy and do it as a form of pleasure,a reward for a days work. Cross training, that is different activities will work much better.

Cardio exercise and some strengh exercise are a must combination. Muscle will burn fat, cardio speed your metabolism and strenghten you heart and lungs. You do not need a marathon or to become a body builder, just do some of both types of exercise, maybe on alternative days, with program rest periods. 20 to 30 minutes a day of each might be good enough, providing you eat sensibly.

Be moderate in the exercise you do, plan rest periods, and most of all, enjoy it.

Good luck

Try a cleansing diet! I did and lost 11 pounds and 21 inches in only 9 days. I was very happy with the results and continued on the program and lost 29 pounds in 5 weeks. This is the fastest I have ever lost with other diets like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Slimfast etc…. Cleansing works by removing toxins from your body. You get toxins from your food (pesticides, preservatives, food additives, colorings) water, chemicals, pollution, medications, alcohol, hormones that the animals you eat were fed etc….YUCK! The toxins get coated with fat and remain in your body. To remove the fat, you have to remove the toxins. This system worked for me, maybe it can work for you too. You can check out the website or call this toll free number 1-877-587-4647 for more info. The program is not cheap, but it is worth every penny since it works and keeps you motivated. Good luck! goal setting.

if you have a goal win a 10 km running race then the goal set will give you the motivation to keep fit and will give you the motivation and the mode for which to train IE to win a swim race the best mode to train would be swimming and that would be the best way for you to keep fit.

however research has proved that the heart has to work hardest when the body is vertical such as running.

I therefore would say with these two thoughts in mind I would suggests that the best mode for keeping fit would be get a goal and go for it.

Definitely avoiding the beer, eating well and sleeping well. And also no sandwich at lunch... Sounds boring but it works.
