Can a Chow Chow bark?

Question

Simple question really but as a child I recal that my Uncles Chow Chow could not bark and I was wondering if that was typical of the breed or just an issue with that dogg.

A Chow Chow will bark. Its just your uncles dog, He may not be a barker. He should thank his lucky stars and be happy with his near silent dog. I am sure you uncles dog can bark, but he chooses not to. I have a simular dog like that now, though i heard the dog bark once in its 9 years, he more whines than anything. Basenji's dont bark like a typical dog as stated above in the last post, BUT they do something called Yodeling. Which if anyone has heard a Basenji's Yodel its far more louder and annoying than any dog barking!!! So when you hear that Basenji's dont bark, thats not true they just channel there noise into something that sounds like a woman being strangled while she is singing opera. I know I have a friend with 7 rescued Basenjis and they ALL make noise.

Yes Chows can bark, theres one that lives up the road from me that wont shut up while im trying to sleep.

Chow Chow's bark. My one Chow ChowX barks alot. He looks pure but I know he ain't.

yes a chow can bark ..its just some breeds bark more than others ...a basenji however does not have a true bark

its a issue with that dog. i own a chow and she barks. and ive owned 3 others. and they all barked.

I was raised with chows and they do bark.

Yes, the only breed that doesn't bark is the basenji and even it yodels, so it isn't "silent". Even though I find it to be cruel, maybe your uncles dog was debarked?

yup, i've heard them. some dogs just dont bark.
