Depends on the protein bar. Many are just like candy bars with a little protein in them. But for me they are a great meal replacement for ONE meal a day (I eat six small meals a day). So for me, they work great.

PS - my nutrionist's rule of thumb from protein bars, if I am not mistaken, is that an item's sugar content (usually found under the carbs count) should not be more than the total amount of carbohydrates. That is, if an item has 20 total carbs, the sugars should be 10 or less.

The work to tie you over until you can eat. Cause some of bars the are better for you then a candy bar. But some of the "protein bars" have more bad then good to them...just watch what you are buying.

yep, but if you got the time and are not too lazy try a protein drink and you can buy these or the best and cheapest ones are the ones you make from a powder..GNC or the any good health food store will have a lot of these and also get several different flavors like Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry...BUT you must drink a lot of water as this will cause your kidneys to help function and prevent problems like kidney stones...read the labels for possible side effects...I like a smoothie with a lot of fruits and the powder protein ..i used to put a raw eggs in it but that is not recommended but it does give you a jolt of power..like in ROCKY

Fab has the correct answer , the effectivness of a protien bar ,is more appropiate if you are a weight lifter, and yes i also am a myoplex fan,I also use their powdered meal relacements ,but I would suggest only consuming half a bar at a time, unless you are built like rocky ,your body cannot assimilate 42 grams of protien at once ,and what what doesn't get assimilated will be stored as fat.

Most protein bars are just simple carbs. Eat nuts. They're natural.

Oh yeah they work, If you workout all protein you have regenerate and builds muscle and every other tissue... Protein is necessary to create and repair cells in our entire body... including muscle cells... when you workout you to some degree "damage" your muscles... protein repairs them and reinforce them, making your muscles grow, and grow stronger.

Myoplex bars are the best, up to... 45 grams...

They do help cure your appitite for the time being, they make great snacks as long as they are 8 grams a fat or less and no or little sugar. As far as being a meal or outside those guidelines. You will most likely eatthe whole box, gain from the sugar and fat in them. Just be smart ;)

That depends. What do you think they are supposed to do? By law they must provide the nutrients in the proper quantity listed on the label.
