I have hatched a chick he is 2 days old. How do i get him to eat and drinking. Ive diped his beak in the dish and used my finger to peck at the food. any ideas? This is a banty chicken.

First, make sure he's warm enough. Chics require heat, and without it, they will fail to thrive. If there's heat, and shade, then he'll eat on his own. Careful about dipping his beak in water, he could aspirate and get pneumonia.

Edit. as for regurgitated food, that is reserved for wild birds. Domestic chickens, even banties, eat on their own. Except for turkey chics. Don't get me started on how STUPID turkey chics are.

Sounds like did everything perfectly. A chick can feed on its yolk sack for 3 days or more. He probably isn't ready yet. Give him another day or two. Also make sure he is warm, he'll eat better if he's comfortable. Put a couple tablespoons of sugar in his water so it will give him a boost once he starts drinking. Keep pecking at the feed also, pretty soon he'll see you as his parent and mimic you. Good Luck : )

Just keep doing what you are doing it won't be too long before he is doing it all on his own. Be sure the the water dish is small and shallow. We usually use a salsa lid or something that size. If it gets wet it is sure to get sick and die. Good Luck. What are you going to name it?

um mom s usually regergitat there food to the chicks untill they are ready for solids take a plastiv spoon cut it so its like a beak and fill it with some mushy formula put it some were by the chicks beak wait until she opens it and let a smal amount slide into her
