Historically, the Quran was written after the Bible. Both books discuss Adam.

Was Mohammed influenced by the Bible?

I'm very disappointed that many respondents bash Muslims... and I'm even more disappointed that the "star" system has been used to highly rank the bashers and to low rank & hide the responses that were from Muslims.

I haven't been on answers in awhile, but it looks like it really is falling to crap in terms of quality.

Some of mohammads teachers were Christians slaves like Jabr, Bahira the monk and more others, all those shred religious knowledge with him.
Mohammad used to sit at Al- Marwa at the booth of a young Christian called jabr as slave of B. al Hadrmi and they used to say the one who teaches mohammad most of what he brings is Jabr the Christian slave of B.al- hadrami. For muslms who say muhammad was illiterate, that doesn't stop him from remembering what he used to hear from other people, then go back to his writer, Abdallah bin Sa'd bin sarh. Muslims admitted Mohammed memorized all the verses in the koran, so it would be easy for him to remember things from other people. For muslims who said there was no contact with Christians, what about Najran? Its about 350 miles southeast of mecca. Why was mohammed sad after waraqa died? Because he lost one of his Christian sources.

I don't think the Qu'ran is based on the Bible; I think they come from the same Source. That would explain why both discuss Adam (and Mary, Jesus, etc.)

There were a few twisted stories from The Bible being passed down village to village.

Mo's OLD Catholic wife probably had a SLIGHT INKLING of its contents.

They did get a few things SCREWED UP though
such as:
"Not Jesus, but a look alike, was substituted and crucified at the Cross." -4:157
THIS IS BLASPHEMY - AND A LIE! No proof can be offered at all.

Mohammed (pbuh) was not influenced by the Bible for one simple reason: he was illiterate. Both books discuss Adam because up until the point in history where Mohammed wrote the Quran, most Muslims and Christians had similar viewpoints on Allah and their histories.

Note: Christianity arose when the Jews rejected Jesus as their Messiah.
Islam arose because we always believed that Allah is the only being worthy of praise and glorification. We honor the word of His Prophets (among which Jesus Christ is listed) and believe in His Angels, but only worship Him.

No, the Quran was recited to Mohammed by the angel Gabriel. Mohammed was illiterate and therefore could only remember what was said. The Quran was compile into the book form we know today only much later, many years after the death of Mohammed.

Muhammad wasn't influenced by Bible. Because Muhammad didn't just sit down and write the Quran by himself. The Quran was revelaed to Prophet Muhammad by Allah [God]. It has been saved in the EXACT form as it was revealed. God himself made sure that nothing was extracted or added to the text. In short, we believe this is God's book, and we believe it is exact and hasn't had any additions made to it.

Bible isn't the same book it was revealed upon Jesus as. Men made changes to the book, sometimes added whatever the hell they wanted to. So much so that Bible today exists in more than one forms and nobody knows whether its for real or not. So many Catholics have told me 'God didn't fax the Bible to man you know'.

So anyway, yeah the teachings of Islam, are actually the reinforced teahcings of the original Bible. Only we consider them [Quranic teachings] true.

no ..
1-Mohamed peace be up on him can't read or write (he was an illiterate) .
2- the qur'an contain an AMAZING word and meanings which no one can bring even one verse similar to it UNTIL NOW and that was a miracle from the god which also let many many people convert to Islam immediately .
don't forget that also Torah had similar prophets stories as in bible and qur'an , we have the same god and the same prophets.

No, Muhammad was not influenced by the bible. It's a fact that he was illiterate and could not read. He also did not come into contact with many Christians either. The Quran fills in the blanks of bits of the bible, like Mary's (peace be upon her) parents and more of her story than the bible itself. Also, it tells many of the stories found in the Old Testament, with some corrections and much in common. For example, it says Abraham was going to kill Ishmael (peace be upon them both). The Bible quotes the command to him as to "sacrifice your first son" who was Ishmael, but the old testament says that Isaac (peace be upon him) was the one to be sacrificed. Seemingly a biblical mistake, corrected by the Quran, sent by God and we know this because Muhammad, peace be upon him, could not have copied the biblical stories' details from anywhere.

As a parallel example; Jesus, peace be upon him, is mentioned in the bible as lecturing to the rabbis as a child, but it was considered a miracle because he knew more than the rabbis because of part of God's knowledge was given to him. Some of the pagans accused him of getting the Quran from a christian source, but the people they named were all foreigners who could barely speak Arabic, let along write what is considered better than any Arabic poem or piece of literature in all of Arabic language history. It leads to the conclusion that the Quran was from God.

According to Islamic doctrine, the bible, gospels and Quran all came from one original source. God sent the Torah (old testament) but over time it got corrupted, leading God to send the Gospel to correct it, but that was corrupted and parts lost, so God sent the Quran. God said that He will protect this book from corruption, and He did. (How and why are longer answers that can be discussed later).

According to Islam, the Torah and Bible were both based off the Qur'an...though it claims both the Torah and the Bible as its predecessors... either way, they believe Jews corrupted the Qur'an in the Torah and Xtians corrupted the Qur'an with the Bible, and they believe that only they had the common sense to do it right.
