What are you doing carrying around this dead cat in a bag that some loony, vet gave back to you? You should have just left the cat there with the loony.

Wow, that's a tough question. I'm so sorry for your loss.

When I lived in an apartment and my cat died, I got her cremated and kept the urn, but that may be expensive too. Check your phone book or do an online search to see if there are any pet crematories in your area - sometimes they have an option to cremate and scatter the ashes out in a field that costs less than having the ashes returned to you.

Or, do you have a friend who does own a home who would allow you to bury your cat on their property, and allow you to plant some flowers on top? Your friend would get some pretty flowers and you'd get to bury your cat properly.

Another option that I had to take once. when I was a broke student, was to go and bury a pet near the town dump - you can check with your town's sanitation department to see what you can do.

I like the park or forest idea suggested first, too, if that's an option for you.

Sorry to tell you this, but Vets don't bury anything! They use a cremitorium to burn, or a rendering plant to 'recycle' their lost patients. I'm sorry for your loss, I've a service dog and I'd be hard pressed to find something myself when the time comes, But I might think about the freezer, till I had the $ to bury her myself some where 'special'.

Most animal shelters will take your cat's remains and cremate them with the animals they have had to put down. They may charge you a minimal fee, but they will do the job for you. And they are really more compassionate about it than most people would have you think.

Call your local Animal Control Shelter and let them know the situation. They deal with this situation and they'll give you the right advice. Sorry about your pet.
