But surely no Christian can commit a sin as Jesus died for everybody sins and so if that theory is to be believed then there can be no hell.

What astounds me are the people who have blind faith and accept the bible, which after all was a collaboration by a Roman Emperor (Constantine) over 300 years after the death Jesus, and was used as a political weapon in discriminating against various sects of Christianity. Also it was used to signify the power of the patriarch. So how can people honestly believe the Bible to be the word of God.
It has been purported that the Vatican Library holds some true Gospels from early Christianity that have been supressed because were they to be accredited then power would be disseminated and dispursed from the Papacy.
The truth in these claims are contentious to say the least. however, the uncovering of the books of Judas and Mary Magdalene in recent years has cast controversy over religious propaganda in the Christian faith.
The "Dead Sea Scrolls" have also been renounced as they clearly state that "the Church is not to be found in Bricks and Mortar but the mind and eyes of all men

I am aware of the history of the word sin, however, in today's vernacular people would regard the word sin as meaning the commission of an act deemed to be morally wrong.

To alan h I thought that Jesus died for everybodies sins not for all of the arrows that fell short!!?
I understand the purpose of the question - to highlight people's obsession with Good -v- Evil and the ridiculous nature therein.
Sure people commit bad deeds but surely if good deeds outweigh the bad then why seek forgiveness and bow in shame?!
This is why religion has diminished because people just cannot believe the ridiculous ideals that the various faiths lay down.

The Abrahamic god is odd all round.I serve my Gods because I beleive in them and choose to but though I suspect they may like being worshipped and it may make them more inclined to help us or communicate with us they don't need it.After all for centuries there were only a handful of worshippers when we were persecuted by early Christians. Which is why followers of the ancient Celtic faith and many other religions don't try and convert people.
Why does the Abrahamic god care so much about being worshipped and converting as many people as possible to do that?

You have picked up some odd ideas. The Bible was well on its way in its present form way before Constantine. Where did you get that funny idea?
Sin is not 'committing' anything.
It is originally an archery term refer to the arrow falling short of the target,
Sin is falling short of the target to love God with all your being, and to love your neighbour as yourself.
0n THAT basis, we're all in the same boat.
But therew is forgiveness and grace.

Only evil people are affraid of God. They continue to do evil things and they will pay after their lifes are over with. He gave us the Ten Commandments, look those up and you will find what sin is. The good thing is we all sin but he forgives us of our sins. Remember this to, Jesus is coming soon, are you going??

Churches teach that God is a vengeful torturer who will torment you forever in hell.
Truth is God is love and wishes no suffering on any soul.
The churches are responsible for the lack of spirituality in the world with their false teachings and lack of hope for humanity.
They to a degree blame God for the suffering as they call it acts of God or God is punishing them or God wanted another angel in heaven when a death of a young one happens.
No wonder people turn against religion as God's name is besmirched by the very ones who claim to follow him.

People don't live in fear of God. People live in fear of what they do that is against God's will. They are ashamed of themselves.
A sin is an act committed by an individual that one feeling guilty about themselves, and can be commited by thoughts, words, or actions that leave us feeling guilty. Let your conscience be your guide.

Fear is a powerful motivator. Especially when the priest or reverend or what ever you call the con-man needs a new cadillac.
Sin is an outdated concept. People make mistakes, nothing more.

People live in fear of God because they choose to ignore/refuse to find a more plausible explanation for misfortune of other. Sin is generally something that is socially unacceptable, thought the Christian sin also caused by your parent having sex and making baby. Why does the spiritually sensitive people dislike other procreating? is it a defense mechanism? Make you wonder huh... thanks for the question, it gave me more questions to ask.

Because they believe they have to.
As far as i can see, you are your own judge and juror and it is only a sin if you believe it to be so. If it wasn't for christianity there would be no sin. How can you commit them? Well. If you don't believe in christianity then you can't.

Dunno why Christians find their god scary and fearful, isn't he meant to be all loving?
sin is when you go against the bibles big no-no's, like thou shalt not murder, if you go out and murder, you've commited a sin because you went against the Christian rules and regulations.
Not every one lives in fear of their god, I don't and like some one else said, nor do the Buddists.
