Absolutely not. What country do you live in?? Unless is China or Russia or something, NO! Not to say that they may not have a valid reason for firing you if you already take a lot of time off and they don't want to give you another sick day, but if you are sick, go to the doctor....if you are getting health benefits from your employer and they are threatening to fire you than you might want to be careful and ask what you can do. Good luck!

Assuming this is the US...

Not really. Unless your employer has you locked in, they can't physical prevent you from going to a doctor.

However, I think what you're asking is if you can be fired/disciplined. Well, sort of.

Unless you have a condition which requires immediate medical attention, an employer can ask that schedule your appointment at a "convenient" time. There is nothing illegal about an employer making this request.

However, if you feel that your health or the health of others would be jeopardized by postponing a doctor's visit, then you do have the right to take leave, in accordance with your employer's leave policies.

Specifically, if you employer offers sick leave, you are entitled to use it for this purpose.

If the employer does not (and not all do), you are entitled to use vacation leave, if you have such a thing.

If your employer does not offer any such leave, you are entitled to take unpaid leave. You employer does not have to pay you for the time you're a doctor, nor do they need to allow you to "make it up."

In some cases, FLMA may apply. There are several requirements for this, but if they all apply, the law says that the employer must grant leave. However, a doctor's appointment would typically not apply to FLMA unless you are otherwise unable to work.

No, what, they're going to chain you down? You can go to a doctor whenever you want!

Now, they don't have to PAY for it!! And if you miss time from work, they can fire you. Which is what I suspect you're REALLY asking about. But they can't stop you from going to the doctor any more than they can stop you from going to the grocery store. You just have to do it on your own time.

We have a guy in our office that "Goes to the doctor" about every other day. Your not going to get arrested for going to the doctor, but you can fired if you leave work on a regular basis.
