Best Constipation Cures

Lots of good advice here. Karo syrup in water and fruit juices work. So do the suppositories. My son had constipation because he didn't get enough fruits in his diet. Luckily we found out there isn't a fruit on earth, that we found, that he wouldn't eat. He would throw down candy for fruit or dried fruit. He now saves the candy for later and eats the fruit. Go with the natural stuff if you can!

Pear Juice. Just stay home when you give it. I gave some once to my 18 month old in the car and it was a huge mess! You must always try to get them to drink lots of water daily to avoid this. Vitamin C is a natural stool softener and look for juice with Vitamin C.

If it's mild constipation you could use a tablespoon of DARK Karo syrup, you could also try Kondromul which is an over/behind the counter laxative that is in a liquid form and it works really, really well!
If all else fails take him to the Dr. or give him a child's enema.

Natural REMEDIES work best. Prune juice, fiber wafers, plain popcorn, other fruit juices may work too. When I had my children you were not allowed to leave the hospital before you had a bowel movement. I ate popcorn and drank prune juice, and its worked since. Fiber wafer would be found in the laxative section and work pretty much like the popcorn.

The juices are all good but if you don't want the sugar you can try chopped up grapes or the best, canned pumpkin. The pumkin is cooked and safe and you can add a little bit of whipped cream to sweeten it most kids like it.

I feel for you! My daughter is now six and we still have that problem. Have you tried white grape juice? It is a good thing. They do have childrens over the counter laxative , they dont taste real great, but they work. We had to resort to glycerin supositories alot of times. If you do make sure you buy the infant size. Talk to your doctor and he/she may be able to help you with a higher fiber diet.Good luck to you!

There are a good number of OTC and homemade remedies.

However, for a 1 year old, contact your doctor. You'll get specific advice that works for your child. And, more to the point, that your doctor will be able to deal with, should it not work out.

Both of my kids are cheese lovers, so we go through this often. Her doctor says, and it has always worked for us, water, fruits, and veggies.
If that doesn't help, we had to use an over the counter laxative once, but I would contact your pediatrician first and make sure that's OK, since he's so young.

Miss Pink (the first responder) has the right answer. Take him to the Doctor, or Public Health Department, because he is too young for you to ignore this. A pediatrician can evaluate him and give you the information you need to properly care for this.
