I believe that it is 14 to watch their own siblings. I think that they can babysit for someone else at 12. Depends on your area. But typically - siblings don't listen to another sibling as well as other kids will.

Local ordinances are what you need to find out. In my area it is 12yrs old. My friends is 11 during daytime hours only. Some say 16 overnight. Call local police Non-Emergency & they will tell you. You know your own kids. If you feel they are more than ready & have help if there is an emergency then use your judgement if you can't find an answer. The Local Libraries usually have the training classes for babysitters so you could try them as well. Good luck!

As far as I know of there is no certain age by law. But you just want to make sure the kid babysitting is reasponsible and not going to do things like have friends over and can concentrate and pay attention to the younger ones.

It depends on where you live... Around where I live (Louisiana) they have to be 12 yrs old. Check your local hospital and see if they offer a babysitting certification class, they can tell you how old they must be. You may also want to enroll your oldest in the class so that he/she can learn CPR.
