I know an 11th grade male who has had a mother that have pulled down his pants and spank him in front of the female teachers on several of private parent teacher conference. Is that a strong deterrent?

Yes, but not for that age. And I think as long as your in a privet place like their bedroom it's OK. I have 3 children all under 11. I find spanking in this manner to be the most productive way. I have heard of parents spanking teens before, I just don't think it's very productive. Spankings work best between 2-12, after that use grounding, stripping all their positions out of their rooms, something other then spanking. Spanking at that age becomes almost non effective. I remember as a 12 or 13 year old child, I'd do anything to avoid a spanking. However as a 16 year old, sure I'd take one any day, if it meant no grounding. My parents knew this too, which is why I was never spanked as a older teen. Our goal as parents is to have them ready to take on the adult world as they reach 18. If your still creating consequences for them at 16 your in trouble.

If you are going to spank, for some kids just the FACT of being spanked (like, 3 or 4 smacks) can convey the message very effectively -- even on the seat of the trousers. For other kids, especially older ones, the spanking needs to be REALLY felt. The "target area" being bare can mean it is felt more. I don't like either way, but they both convey the "necessary" message. IMO, there is NO need for deliberately increasing the embarrassment or humiliation by "frontal nudity" or total nudity, etc. Yeah, a kid might get yanked out of a bathtub and spanked as he/she is. That is one thing. But to have to strip for a spanking, that is weird. Mostly, spankings should become seldom by 10 years of age or sooner and rare by the teen years ... and usually girls should be spanked by moms and guys by dads. It sure ain't easy baring the butt for a spanking, but it is better than having trouser and boxers yanked down. Remember, it is the BUTT that is going to be spanked; it is the BUTT and ONLY the butt that needs to be bared. That is embarrassing enough, but as the heat increases who is thinking much about the embarrassment anyway?

This is quite a question, and brings up what appears to be a very unusual situation. However, the next thing I want to say is how important it is in answering a question of this kind to get all the information. For instance you don't say what the infraction was. You don't say whether the teachers got any kind of permission from the principal or whether this was required. You don't say whether other methods were tried with the student. You don't even say what the student's feelings about this are. All of this information is pertinent, even crucial to be able to answer this question. Also, you say you "know" this is going on. How do you know? Were you there? If not, it is second-hand information, and now we are getting it third-hand. So, yes, I am complaining about the various responses which seem to me to be premature. The *appearance* is one thing; it certainly appears strange -- I agree. But we shouldn't comment until we know more.

Now I admit I believe in spanking. I even believe in pants down spanking depending upon the offense (life threatening stuff).
But not at that age and never, ever, in the presence of others.
Spankings applied correctly can be a strong and loving means of discipline (I know some of you will disagree with me). But what you describe sounds like abuse to me.

No I really don't think it's appropiate to spank a 11th grade child with his pants down. I have heard the saying that you don't spank clothes that you pay for but that is wrong. If your he is that bad it's time for you to just start fighting with him not spanking him there is a certain age when that considered wrong.

I dont really belive in Pants down spanking. If you spank your kids ligitamently with pants on thats a different story. I think taking the childs pants down is just not right. You are hurting them more when you do that. You dont want to hurt them when you spank them you want them to get their consequence. You cant expect spanking to be a torture. That is what youll get if you do this.

My mother used to spank me like that and well I haven't done it to my son. I will take the belt and give him 3 or 4 wacks with all of his clothes on and that has only happened 2 times.
I didn't like the spanking thing but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

The mother sounds like she needs spanked. Shame on her for a. doing that, and b. embarrassing him in front of teachers.

not at that age! I have no problem with bare bottom spankings for little kids, like up to 10 or so, sometimes they just need it, but not a teenager O.o
