Most medium breeds are going to be high maintenence in the sense of exercise and sometimes grooming. Labs have A LOT of energy and take a lot of time - so do Goldens only they have grooming issues. Collies and Shelties are the same concerning the grooming.

If you're allowed I'd look into the Giant breeds - Mastifs, Danes, Wolfhunds. Most giant breeds aren't very athletic and just lie around the house. They are very relaxed and laid back yet make excellent guard dogs. They really are ideal for an apartment - more so than the small, medium or large breeds who need more exercise, grooming, and time.

Good Luck

Well it depends on you, you need to see what your lifestyle is. Are you active? do you walk alot? Any dog can handle apartment life if they are well adjusted and you are devoted to keeping there mind and body health and exercised. Low Maintence dogs dont exist, neither do cheap dogs. Large breeds tend to need more stimulations. If you dont have a weight or height restrictions, Older Danes and Dane X's are nice types they require just normal amounts of walking, Pitts or mixs (keep in mind you have to be a good dog handler for these types), Or go a medium less active breed like a Basset Hound. Think about going for a dog over a year old or more, puppies tend to drive apartment tennets NUTS. They are learning, they are barky, they have to go out alot, if you leave them for long periods they can become destructive and whiny, and they are way more active. An older more adjusted dog may be better suited for this kind of life. Its not true about what myths are out there with older dogs, they can bond with you easily and they are trainable. Most come already with some training.

I at present have 2 dogs. (a Bullmastiff 4yrs and a Rotteiler 13months) we stay in a house, and performance a truly great fenced in decrease back backyard. My husband and that i both paintings finished time. climate allowing, we do go away the dogs contained in the backyard with adequate nutrition/water/safeguard). yet because we stay in Mass, which could no longer such a great number of days out of the year. it truly is a great number of work and verbal replace between both persons to make constructive we are living house to take the dogs out, and for a stroll. the straightforward errand after paintings has to often times get positioned off. also, our thirteen month previous Rotti is a 125lb doggy. He desires to run, leap, and play off leash. he remains a finished goof troop. i wager i'm conserving all of this ensuing in my answer I 'imagine' is ideal for you. huge dogs get huge in the previous they're out of the doggy level, and would reason huge destruction. there's a large adulthood distinction between our 2 dogs. i ought to provide a itemizing of the flaws that were eaten, wrecked, etc from both dogs from doggy level to about 2ish. SOOO...i ought to indicate adopting a canines over the age of two. maximum huge dogs are of the operating breeds and performance a great number of means. Of coarse any dogs favor exercising and whatnot, yet i imagine you'll have lots more effective success with an older canines. also merely undergo in ideas that acquiring any canines even as renting, that in case you bypass you ought to locate yet another position which will settle for (huge) dogs. good success!!

In my opinion every dog is high maintenence but I would suggest a Great Dane for this situation... They are huge but very loving... With my experience they are good indoor dogs but they have to be walked everyday or they get fat... They also make good companions.. Hope you find your perfect dog.. :)

All dogs are high maintenance. Personally, if you use the word despise in the same sentence with the word dog, I don't think a dog is for you.

Large dog and apartment simply don't mix, if you're looking for low maintenance, maybe try either a picture of a dog, or a cat. All dogs no matter the breed take a lot of time and maintenance, but if you're willing to make the commitment the payoff is generally worth it.

A Grey hound they are pretty lazy, coach potatoes. They do need to be walked at least 2 times a day for an hour. But they are very sweet dogs and friendly with others. Great Danes believe it or not are great to have too. But watch out for the tails they like to wag them . My cousin had one in her 2 bedroom apartment & big boy was a couch potato, my cousin walked him 3 times a day. Very sweet dog. But when they are pups they are very hyper . German Pinschers are great to have too. Miniature pinscher , Pit bulls . These are all great dogs to have.

Pits are great dogs. Dog & kids reflect their owners/parents.
Us as society likes to jump to conclusions & make judgments at each other or people who are different. Animals that are dangers wild or tame. No one likes to research things and get all the facts before coming to a conclusion. We all like to point the finger at everyone else in stead of at ourselves. No one wants to take responsibility for their own actions always some else's fault . With kids & animals & our own actions.

All dogs can be vicious & violent. I have seen a poodle tear up a kids face. Dogs fault no . the owner never socialized the dog around kids. The mother never taught her child how to act around an animal. Its our responsibility to teach our pets & children how to act what is okay what is not.

Never let your child or anyone run up or yelling to animals . Never show fear. Animals sense this and they think you have something to hide so they go into defense mode and will protect them selves or their family at any cost. You see an animal you want to pet walk up calmly to the owner (do not make eye contact with the animal don't even acknowledge the animal) & ask if its okay to pet their dog.

Socialize your animal around all different kinds of things people other animals loud noises , different surfaces. Dogs need to walk for an hour at least , some breeds need more walks then others , size & energy you have to take into account. Play time , training & they should be crated . Dogs are den animals & when you are not at home or you are sleeping they should be crated or sectioned of to only one part of the house. Dogs have to have rules. You should always look into what kind of dog will fit with your family & lifestyle & that you are going to keep the dog & healthy & loved for its entire life span.(I do understand that some times things can't be helped you should count on that before you get animal & have a plan so the dog doesn't get put into a shelter.)

Best wishes to all

This is going to sound extreme but- Great Danes. They are VERY lazy. They don't require a lot of exercise. They just want to recline on your couch.
