Didn't Christ say that Men only teach the commandments of Men, and know nothing about Judgement, and Mercy?

And Judgement doesn't always mean punishment. Which is where Mercy comes in?And understanding whether people do wrong because they have been done wrong, or
if they do it willfully?

Jesus was referring to the fact that the Pharisees and other had added volumes of traditions and explanations to the Torah (the Christian Old Testament) which had made things so "ruled and regulated" that people had lost the reason behind the whole thing. They had over a hundred steps on how to wash your hands properly, for example.

My pastor compared it last night to someone who know who read the scripture in the New Testament where it says "Do not be drunk on wine, but be filled with the Spirit", and then claimed that it was alright to get drunk on beer. Because beer is not wine. The person had made a "rule" out of the scripture and missed the whole point. Too often religious people have done that.

But thank goodness, who have Jesus and his teachings - which are not the "commandments of men" - to clarify things and help us to remember that "loving God" and "loving others" takes precedence over all the other rules. Our understanding of all them has to hinge on those two.

No I don't think so. Read the Gospels. All of them, all the way through. That way you will be less likely to take something out of context.
