Dear Primo,
That is a good question!
In my opinion and based upon my experiences, it is ONLY hard until we come to the end of self. When we finally do that and are born again we look back and wonder WHY we waited so long.
I think there is a good description of this in C.S. Lewis' book The Great Divorce, A Bus Ride from Hell to Heaven, A One-Way Trip for Some, A Round Trip for Others.
Another example I will share comes from observing my nearly 15 month old grandson with various toys that he has. He not only has his own new toys but he has several that have been handed down from older cousins and neighbor children. He has a keyboard and a guitar and a Bob, the Builder laptop and a cellphone and a regular phone and ALL of these talk and make various noises. Nowadays when I hear a phone ringing I no longer go try to answer it because it is more likely to be a toy.
We get bombarded by things.
We also tend to be inconsistent in our standards.
But God IS. He always WAS and He always WILL BE so I have hope for all people.

It has also been proven that certain books were left out and various interpretations have been written over the years. For me it's hard to believe a God who is everything good created a world that is not full of good things. Oh I know Adam and Eve screwed it up for the rest of us and that's were the fables begin. The big argument is that he gave us "choice". But what about all of the children born into disease, taken away through abuse. What choice did they have. I can assure you however, if he tapped on my shoulder that would be the proof I was looking for. You assume that my heart is hard. I can assure you that my heart is every bit and probably more compassionate than most people you know. I believe the bible offers good lessons to strive for but I don't believe they were passed on as a result of conversations with God. If he existed why not create a Utopia as he intended. One mistake in the garden and he's a quiter or can hold a grudge for eternity. A christians actions cannot convince me for I exhibit the same actions to my fellow man, community and family.

"This book has been proven over and over again as legitimate and true."
No. It hasn't. Saying it has doesn't make it true, either. The Bible and its contents have been refuted by reality and scholars time and time again. It is a wanting book.
"We have source documents......we have eye witness accounts..."
No. You don't. There are no legitimate secular documents outside the Bible for Jesus' existence.
"every day we are gaining more and more geographical evidence (which is the physical proof that you folks seem to desire the most) "
No. You're not. What geographical evidence? For what Biblical events?
"Somehow I think that if God were to tap you on the shoulder and scream "HEY......I'M REAL" in your ears.....you still wouldn't believe because of the hardness of your hearts."
What's the matter? Why are you so insecure about your faith? Not everyone is going to subscribe to your wacky Bible and not everyone has to. There's NO EVIDENCE for your god. NONE. Until you present some, those who do not believe are justified.

For the same reason that the discovery that Troy was a real city didn't make people reconsider their belief in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. That the bible got some of the history and geography right does not mean Yahweh/Jehovah exists any more than Troy proves Zeus and the rest of the Pantheon exists.
Of course maybe I'm wrong and they do exist. Maybe Zeus was one of the other gods that really existed when Yahweh said you shall have no other gods "before me" instead of "at all".

I see a lot of claims listed in the Bible which just do not make any sense. I could try to build upon the Bible using it's metaphors and my rationalizations to try and make more sense of it. Even if I attempt to build a working knowledge upon the Bible it always crumbles when I put it to the test. I try to keep an open mind about most things, I try to view things from multiple angles and religion is unable to support such views.
I have at times been angry toward Christians, I am slowly learning that such anger really does not have any worthwhile value, I am finding that my heart is not hard toward Christianity. I do not believe the same things you believe. I do not refuse to believe in them, I am just skeptical in nature.

yes, hard hearts, just like the pharaoh and stuff.
"This book has been proven over and over again as legitimate and true" - In your head, yes. Not as objectively verifiable truth.
"The gospels are only between 30-50 years removed from the time that Jesus walked our planet." - AND you don't even know your bible history.
".we have eye witness accounts." - of ranting madmen who also stoned people and thought the sun moved around the earth.

Actually some of the New Testament has bee shown to have been written as much as 120 years after Jesus' death. There are no eye witnesses or contemporary evidence to show that Jesus existed.

Funny, Soddom and Gemorrah have been located. However, the Bible says they were destroyed by fire from the sky.
The evidence on the ground is that they were destroyed by a lava flow.
The Bible isn't 100% true in matters even just of history, so how can you trust it on matters of spiritual truth? Even if every single historical detail was verified, there's still a disconnect between that and the spiritual details.
And I find the New Testament impossible to believe because Jesus is called Messiah when he failed the prophecies of The Messiah.

Gods children will hear his voice. You need to get something clear in your mind, so that you can understand:
In the end times, the spirit of Elijah will come to turn the hearts of the children back to their fathers. That word "fathers" is plural, because God is not the only "father" at play here.
The manuscripts are quite clear on this fact. Satan has children living on the earth. Cain was the first one. Thats why Adam and Eve's sin was so great. God multiplied her conceptions - she had twins. One pregnancy, of two separate fathers. two separate sacks. Cain was Satans son; Abel was Adams son. Where do you think all that evil in Cain came from? Cain was thrown out of the garden and a mark was placed on him. Ever hear of the mark of the beast? Thats the mark's origin.
Cain had lots of decendants, they are called "kenites", which fully translated means "sons of Cain". They even survived the flood of Noah, and you will find them alive and well and doing scribe-work for the tribe of Judah in 1Chronicles 2:55.
Not all of us are from God the Father. Today, and even on this forum, you can see prophecy as it is being fulfilled. The hearts of the children sure are, in fact, being turned back to their fathers.
Gods children will hear his voice, and understand his speech.
The ones that do not, may very well be of a different father.
This is Gods plan, and its working perfectly.
Check out the parable of the tares in your Bible - God said if you don't understand that parable, you won't understand most of the Word.
I don't care what you try to do, you will not change those minds if the people are not of God, its just that simple. Won't happen, and its not supposed to happen. God says let both the wheat and the chaff grow together until He returns, and then the Angels will gather the wheat into the barn, and the chaff will be burned.
It will happen exactly like that. Guaranteed.

Because it hasn't been proven, humans have existed alot longer than 6000 years, the earth moves, a flood never covered the earth when humans existed.
The current evidence just shits over the bible.
