The answer is...quite easily! The UK is enjoying record numbers of people joining the police force and in almost every force in the UK, there is an abundance of applicants and successful ones to fill their needs. However, in places such as Canada, New Zealand and Australia, there are severe shortages in certain areas.

Most forces in Australia will have a requirement for you to have a minimum of 2 years experience as a Police Constable before considering your application, you'll then go through their examinations and they'll make sure you satisfy their requirements. If you do and you are offered a contract for employment then that's it, they'll sort out a Visa for you to become resident in Australia and work there.

However, you have to be sure why you are moving, because the work is exactly the same in these countries and the level of violence is comparable to the UK if not worse in some cases. The only real difference will probably be the weather. And also be careful as to where you will be based. For example if you were to apply to New Zealand, not only would you need a specialty to join as a basic constable, but more than likely, you'll be based in Auckland or a major area where prices are sky high though your wages are lower than what you earn in the UK.

That being said, the answer is good research. Check out the websites for all Australian police forces and send a few emails. Try and see if you can speak to officers who have made the move and allow yourself to get a better idea of what you may be in for!

Other than that, good luck!

One of my friends has just transfered from England to Aus, she had to originally get in touch with the Aus force you want to move to via internet, they then send you application force via the post, once that is filled in and if you pass the paper sift, you then have 2 interviews in London on seperate days, then a fitness test in london. Unfortunatly it does have to be London as she lives in Cumbria and still had to travel 3 times, but she was told at interview 1 that they like serving members of the Uk forces and it is a sert as long as you can passs there fitness test your in, (there fitness test is a lot higher standard than the Uk's

I was a police officer in UK for 30yrs.In my early service I applied to Qeensland police and was told it was a matter of applying the same as anyone else but they seemed quite keen and even sent lists of available housing etc.so if it helps it was a matter of joining not transferring
