Neutering is the removal of the sex organs (testes in a male and uterus in a female). It stops the cat from reproducing, so yes its a "cure"

I know exactly how it's done, I've seen it when I was an intern at a vet clinic. If you want the graphic details, keep reading, otherwise, don't keep reading:
First, the cat is put to sleep on its back, with all 4 legs secured. Next:
1. For males, the vet makes an incision at the bottom of each testicle pouch. The testicle ball comes out, the vet ties a knot on the canal, then cuts the testicle off. The pouch's skin naturally retracts and heals quickly. That's it!
2. For females, it's much more labor-intensive: the belly skin gets cut in the middle, vertically, for about 2-3 inches. Then the vet has to cut the membrane below the skin, between the abdominal muscles, to get to the ovaries. There, the procedure is similar to the male's: pull the ovaries out, tie knots, cut. Then the vet must stitch the membrane back together, then the belly's skin back together.
This is why it's usually more expensive to spay a female than to neuter a male!

P.S.: this is the way they did it 15 years ago in France. It might have changed a bit by now, here in USA... I precise this so vets don't get mad at me if I made a mistake! ;-)

Yes, it is a surgery. It is done under general anesthesia so the cat doesn't feel a thing - you can also request that your cat get pain medication after the surgery and the vet will give him or her an injection to help the cat feel better while she recovers. Cats recover very quickly from this procedure and are back to normal within the day for males, and within a couple of days for females.

Spaying and neutering are VERY important to help reduce pet overpopulation. Many unwanted pets are put to death in shelters every day because there aren't enough good homes to go around for all the unwanted kittens.

Neutering will prevent unwanted behaviors in males such as marking the house with urine and fighting over females, and will prevent the cat from getting testicular cancer. Spaying a female will prevent her from going into 'heat', where she would cry out loudly 24 hours a day for weeks and tear up your house trying to get outside to breed. It will also save her from having to go through the hazards of birthing kittens, and from the possibility of getting uterine infections or breast or uterine cancer.

Of course the vet cuts the cat. That's what surgery is. The operation for the male is literally minutes long and they recover quickly. The operation for the female is more invasive and she will have stitches on her belly and takes longer to recover. Your vet will answer all your questions.

Yes it is done at the vet's office and yes the cats are cut. You can call the vet and have them explain it to you sor someone else, and then they can give you the cost of the procedures.

yes the male has his sacs cut (small cut) the balls are cut loose and then they tie the inside so no bleeding occurs ,some use glue or sutures to close and some don't use anything but it's small and heals fast, the female is cut on the tummy area, until they reach the insides then her ovaries are removed sutures are put inside and outside, i tried to explain this as simple as i could i hope it helped!

Yes it is a surgery and a very important thing to do.

There are too many animals that will never find a good home.
