Thats a tough one and really it depends on the kid. Marathon training is hard on the body if it was easy everyone would be doing it. Some young female runners have trouble menstruating when they are logging in that many miles. Others, quite frankly, can be prone to eating disorders. I have seen plenty of young women and young guys run marathons. If it were my daughter I would be cautious and probably would discourage the marathon idea but encourage her to keep running other distances. If she is bent on doing it no matter what then joining a local marathon club may be prudent to help make sure she is training properly ie getting enough miles, enough rest, enough calories and not getting injured. Good luck.

Of course. As long as you are in good health, according to your doctor-meaning you have no medical conditions that could endanger your life while running, AND as long as you TRAIN so you will be able to last throughout the marathon. Do not be a beginner running and try to run a marathon b/c it just will not work. I am 17 years old and I wanted to run for a breast cancer marathon but I am not sure what the starting age is. That is another thing-make sure that for the marathon you are unning you do not have to be at least 18. Good luck.

You can build up to that long distant of a marathon, by running sequences of mile, 2 or more etc.

--Some of the great marathon runners were not all cross-country runners. You do not have to rush your training, make sure your body can take the different distances, young women muscle systems mature differently from young men--and of course we are all diff. individually--test it out carefully.

--Work under a coach you can trust and not exploit you for making a name for themselves--there are many like that around--for the money.

--If you are in high school work with your regular coach and get his or her advice.

--Run for the love of running, enjoy what you are doing and increase as your endurance increases

You sure can! I believe that most marathons require participants to be 18 due to legalities. If you can't travel to any marathons that do not require that you be 18 start doing other races. Most 5Ks, 10Ks, bike races, and swimming teams allow younger participants. Train up and you will be ready for those marathons in two years.

The 18 year old requirement probably has more to do with legal requiremnts than physical requirements. Check with your doctor, if you are done growing there should be no greater harm to you than anyone over 18.

Hey! Sometimes when you go further it can mess up that wonderful relationship as friends that you seem to have with him. But what's life without taking chances? Take this leap of faith and trust that it will work out well. If you're really nervous, talk to him and let him know you're afraid that if the more than friends thing doesn't work out then you'll never talk again or any other fears. I'd say go for it, this is a great opportunity and a brand new year. Take the chance girl :) And for goodness sake let him kiss you!! hahah most guys are so afraid so if he really wants to then let him. As for kissing, it's such a natural thing that your body will know what to do. If you're nervous for the kissing part you can even look up things on youtube. Good luck!

Yes she would be as long as she is healthy to begin with. They don't allow it for safety reasons and lawsuits, just in case she gets hurt, plus being underage, it would be difficult to be sure it is her parents signing for her to do so. Too much red tape.
