I'm a taxi driver. We are only exempt from wearing a seat belt when we have passengers in the car. This is for our safety in case we need to get out of the car or a passenger behind the driver could pull the driver's seat belt and strangle him. When the driver is in the car on his own he must wear the belt. All passengers by law must wear a belt. { In my area the local licensing authority for my council district adheres to Scottish parliament laws, hence the reason why we don't have to wear them when we have passengers in the car }.

With ref to above Raygsd

Good answer.
however, I believe you are wrong regarding the driver.

Even with a passenger or passengers onboard.....
we MUST wear a belt.

All adult passengers have their own responsibilities.
All children, if under your personal supervision, must wear belts.

BoTToM Line.....Taxi Drivers MUST wear a belt AT ALL TIMES.

I agree we dont, and can maybe use the excusues shown above, but the law is strict.

Unless you drive everywhere in REVERSE.......
Totally excempt then................

Taxi drivers are exempt from having to wear a seatbelt for safety reasons, if they feel like the passenger is going to attack them.
The passengers are not exempt.
