Not sure I would say they are beneficial to the country but they do have a small footprint (area on which they stand) compared to the total area of floor space which is of economic value to the owners. It also means if there is limited land area you can provide more housing or office space. They are very much a status symbol for the country to have the tallest or biggest building of its type. Above a certain height (different heights for different construction methods and materials) it becomes uneconomical to go heigher except for the reason above

Skyscrapers are often associated with economic success and it is a symbol of importance.
Problem is skyscrapers can be eyesores and create unusual weather patterns on a city level. If the skyscraper is built in area that is prone to natural disasters then recommend buildings not greater than 6 storeys (an ancient Egyptian rule).

Not always at least in some countries. They are good here i America since land is running out and people don't want to chop down tress for more land, but not in other countries, it can be dangerous and useless. Here's why:in some countries there is a lot of land which is open to be used for buildings. Also countries with highly dangerous terrorists can be dangerous because you dont know when they will stike so it is for some on bad for others.

They are usually built in city centres where space is limited and expensive for office blocks. They are ugly things but benefit our economy. Ugly skyscraper flats were built usually in areas of deprivation to provide cheap housing. They generally in my view don't benefit the people who live in them. It would only take a few undesirables to wreck the lives of all the residents. There is no sense of community and, just my personal view, is soul destroying because they are big impersonal concrete monstrosities with no green area to view or walk in.
