i mean seriously i am a spiritualist and there are over 350 other religions in the world and more than 34,000 sects of christianity alone. i dont see why anyone would assume that a person who isnt a christian would think that non christians are all atheist. there still is paganism and other beliefs out there today.

I'm a christian and I don't think those who aren't christians are atheist. They are simply not christians.
I have friends who are Muslim. They may not believe what I believe, but they still believe in something. While I may not agree with there beliefs, it is THEIR beliefs. We explain our beliefs to eachother, and have respect for them.
Atheism is disbelief in any type of higher power. So if someone disregarded that, had no type of belief in anything, I would then call them an atheist.

Two reasons perhaps:

1. They havent seen anyone else but christians and atheists.

2. They think everyone who isnt a christian is doomed to hell and the equivalent of an atheist.

You either believe in God, or do not. You can't have both "A" and "not A" as truth. So, Christians assert that those who do not believe in God are either Athiest, or Agnostic, etc.

i know! it's really annoying. look, I'm between religions right now because I'm not really sure, but i know I'm not christian. i told this to friends ( i wouldn't say close friends), and all of a sudden they start having a panic attack. "JACIE! OH, MY DEAR JACIE! DON"T GO TO HELL! GO TO CHURCH!"

I guess it's because their so used to people being tah same as them. Notice you hardly ever see someone outside the Caucasian persuasion in a christian church.

Hope this helps, Peace.

They are not very intelligent. They make false assumptions and run with them. My advise is too stay away from these unwise individuals.

Take it as a complement.

They assume you're one of the sane people who is immune to their babble.

A spiritualist, huh? ...We probably agree on one thing at least - taking offence at being grouped together.

Those who aren't Christians or Jews are atheists.

It's pretty simple, really. The others are illegitimate.

I don't know.

I don't believe in atheism. I believe that everyone in this world worships something, whether it is love, money, sex, food, drugs, etc.
