When you ask a question on Y!A do you research the answers you receive, even if they are contrary to your beliefs or knowledge? I sometimes wonder if the investment of time that many of our talented members have placed into their answers is often wasted.

If I am giving my opinion, I do not research.

If I absolutely know the answer I do not research.

If I am unsure or do not know, I either research or do not answer.

Sometimes I go by the majority....how many people had the same answer. If there's not an overwhelming majority of one answer, I then go and look up the question on google or whatever. But asking it here first is fun and is a hobby. I also go by the person's specialty. A lot of drs and nurses, lawyer, accountants, etc. are on here and if they let you know that as their source, then I'm more apt to believe their answer. I also look at their other answers and see if they are a serious person who tries to give the best answer or someone who just gives smart alec answers.

I don't usually research the answers that I receive because I don't ask very difficult questions. But I do research some of the answers that I give.

I haven't asked many questions, but I do have an open mind and do take to heart any serious answers. Especially the ones that have good references and scriptural backing.
I just hope others do the same, because most of my answers are well researched.

Personally, if the answer is cogent and well thought out....then yes I will take further steps, however if all I get is biblical quotes or the old "Jesus is Truth" kind of cop-outs, then no. I can agree or disagree with any answer, but the ones I most enjoy are those which make me think, usually if it presents something I haven't thought of before.

I never waste time and effort researching creationist answers and most of the questions I've asked have been about evolution.
