If someone has all that information, then yes they can use it to purchase items and run up your bill. Will the bank "get him"? Probably not, since it would be almost impossible to prove that he made those purchases and not you. Is it safe to give your credit card information over the internet? Usually. Make sure the seller is reputable and the site is secure. You can tell a secure site if, when you are on the page to enter your credit card information, the url starts with https: not http: and you will see a picture of a lock down near the toolbar.

he can't transfer or steal money but he can use your card to pay online. It is and it's not safe to buy online, I stick big companies sites but you can't be sure that it's 100% safe. The best think is to keep an eye on your transactions and call your credit card company or bank if you notice something.

federal law limits your liability for any unauthorized purchases on a credit card to 50 dollars. and i have never heard of a company that did not wave that. so even if it does get stolen, you should be o.k. just make sure your computer has a firewall, anti-virus and spy-wear protection, and always make sure the website you deal with is from a company you know, and the page that you enter the information, has a URL that starts with https. (look for the little padlock) never give you personal info in response to an email- that usually a scam, even if it looks legit

Well, it depends on which website. You should always use a website that is reputable such as Best Buy, Future Shop, Walmart, etc...........don't go to the private ones. They could be scam!
They can't transfer money but they can use the card to order something online!

well not really. it has to be fraud. if you gave it to the other person you cant have them go buy a bunch of things (maybe even for you) then call the credit card company and say they stole it. and if the bank finds out that you were giving out your number to random people then they wont refund you the money.

Also, check with your credit card company to see if they offer virtual card numbers. Citibank does that, so I can generate a single use card number right here from my home computer. That way no one can take that number and use it again.
I ALWAYS use this service for internet purchases.

Just make sure you initiate the sale and that it is a secured website. you can tell by the little "Padlock" down in the right hand corner of the screen or if the web address begins with "HTTPS://"

I've been doing it for years, but only on a secure site. Look for the little yellow padlock on your screen. If it's not there, then I won't do it.
