My 3 month old kitten jumped on my old Rottie's hip's last Sat. And she has very bad arthritis. She was sleeping and didn't know what happened and she snapped getting my kitten in the head. We rushed her to the vet. They treated her and sent her home. Monday she was back in due to infection in her nose. If they can't smell they won't eat. They have her on the road to recovery, but sent her home yesterday. I'm getting her to eat but she still won't drink. Probably because she can't smell it. Can anyone give me some suggestion's on how to get her to drink? They knew she wasn't drinking when they sent her home. I don't want to see her backslide. Your time and help is greatly appreciated. And thank you.

I would try wet food for now because I believe it has a high water content. Perhaps you could try getting the cat to drink from an eye dropper or out of your hand?
You could also give the cat some cat milk if you get desperate.... my kittens love cat milk
Good luck

I had a kitten that contracted Panleukopenia/Parvo/Distemper (whatever you want to call it) and when she beat the disease and came home to most important instruction from the Vet was to make sure she was well hydrated. She was about 3 or 3.5 months old at the time, and the Vet said she needed to be drinking at least 100 cc's of water a day (or maybe more). In order to make sure she drank this much, we obtained a syringe that had up to 50 cc's marked on it and filled it up at least twice daily and manually squirted it down her throat. This enabled us to make sure she was getting the enough water, and allowed us to humanely give it to her. I would suggest this method so long as you aren't hurting the kitten.

Water is a good liquid for a cat, you could try to get a pipette form a chemist or vet. If you do not know what this is it a like a small glass syringe and then you could sqeeze a little fluid into your kitten's mouth.Do it gently, most will run out but some will be swallowed, good luck.

If your kitten is eating we food, some of the required liquid is getting in. If I were you I would get electrolyte solution from the vet and give it to the kitten in a needleless syringe.
You can force the kitten's mouth open by applying a little pressure on both sides of the mouth and then squirt in a little liquid in a bit at a time.
Good luck to your kitten!!

Try giving her some milk and push her mouth down on to it, she might take it after her mouth has been soaked with the milk, or water. Failing that, tryin using a dropper tool, puttin some water into it and force her mouth open an just gently drop some water into her mouth a good few times, it might help. Hope she gets better soon!

If you are feeding her canned food she should be ok without water. Please don't give her milk. Milk is not good for cats. If she is eating only dry food, or if she seems to be dehydrated, call the vet and ask what they would recommend. I had a cat that was sick and I had to take a syringe with water and force water in him that way, but before you upset her with that, call the vet.

Cats dont drink much to start with. Just give her some canned food instead of dry and she'll get most of the moisture she needs without drinking.

Water smells? Seems like if she'll eat without smelling, that drinking without smelling shouldn't be a problem. Maybe she just doesn't want a drink.

If she is eating then she can smell it. Water does not smell. Try wet kitten food to help with hydration.
