Hi
18 months ago we lost our 12 year old blue roan12 months earlier He was diagnosed as diabetic and since then we had to inject him twice a day
We had an extra year with him although at the time of diagnosis it was touch and go but, we thought that he deserved a chance- we are not the type of family that will think of the cost of vets bills over an animal
I really do want to find a new pup as the house seems so quiet without him- even tho I've got 3 kids!!
Can anyone help?

Hi there, I know what you mean about the house being quiet - plus you probably miss all the good things about your 12 year boy. I'm sure that it will be fun getting to know a new pup & it also helps you to remember all the fun times you had with your lad.

The Kennel Club has a Puppy Sales Register & info on buying a puppy from a reputable breeder:
http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/436

The Champdogs website also has a list of breeders & puppies available - the advertisers here seem to be breeders who also show their dogs so I'd imagine that all the pups will be KC registered. The breeders pages show locations (in case you need to go on a waiting list for a blue roan) & the puppies page can be sorted by geographical area:
http://www.champdogs.co.uk/guided/all_cocker-spaniel.html

Another place that has loads of adverts - though you'll need to register (for free) to get the contact details (oh, but if the ad is less than five days old, you'll have to pay £4.99 to view contact details or wait until the ad is older) is the ePupz site. On the plus side you can easily search by english county & sort the adverts by price, kc registered, date of ads, etc:
http://www.epupz.co.uk/search/puppies_for_sale.asp?breed=Cocker+Spaniel&area=all&st=1&Submit=Search+++
The prices really vary but I think it also depends on the location of the breeder - for example the first ad that came up when I looked was for a blue roan kc registered puppy for £260 in Carmarthenshire - then just two down another ad - this time for unregistered blue roan puppies in West Yorkshire but these little cuties were £450!

There's also the Cockers Online web pages - apparently they do not include adverts from large scale commercial breeders - so you stand more chance of finding a puppy that's been brought up in a home & well-socialised before you get him or her - very important as you have kids:

If you'd like to rescue a Cocker then the following websites may help:
http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/rescue.htm
http://www.dogclub.co.uk/dogs/profile-ecsp.php

Finally I found this - it is a breeders website but it does give advice on finding a puppy:

Hope this helps

Before you buy another puppy, have a read of this site - it gives lots of useful information. Beware of buying a puppy at much less than the market price for a well bred pup. There is bound to be a reason for it, the pups may not be KC Reg, the parents not eye tested, the parents may not have had all the other necessary health checks, the parents may not be typical Cockers or have dodgy temperaments. Please make sure you buy from a reputable breeder by using the Breed Clubs to make contact with breeders.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I am guessing you are in the UK? I am in the US , the board does not say this question is not in the US but I am guessing because of the way you described your dog.

If you are in the US you can go through the akc (www.akc.org) to find a breeder, but you might you want to know that "roans" are considered "parti-colors" in the US. They are gorgeous dogs! I think even the US English Cocker standard uses the term parti-color. (The akc recognizes both American and English Cocker Spaniels.)

If you get a bunch of US answers asking you what a roan is and saying there is no such thing---please grin and ignore them. LOL

Best wishes on your search. I know you'll find a wonderful new dog to fill that vacant spot.

I would suggest 2 things:
1st - since you want a specific breed puppy try http://www.akc.org and find a reputable breeder.

2nd - Contact your local animal shelters and rescue groups and ask them if they have any for adoption. There are many loving animals that don't have homes in our society. Visit: http://www.mypetnanny.info/pd/index.htm
Select your state and you will see rescues and shelters in your area.

Good Luck!! Your new friend is waiting for you!!
