The Real Point is to provoke a response. You're talking to a bunch of post adolescents. They don't want to convert you - they want to fire off arguments and feel satisfied that they have won a debate. Never mind that most of them have never never cracked a theology book.

Every group has it's bad eggs and unfortunately Trolls have taken to an atheist role of attacking Christians because it gets the most responses and atention.

We feel under seige. There are questions on here about why we even are in this section, that we do not belong here. We are told we are bound for hell because we live moral lives without God. People want to teach our children Creationism in the science lab rather than in Religious Studies and ban our schools from teaching anything but Abstinence. School Prayer with it's "optional" attendence creates more difference for children to suffer. In short Christianity is becoming more aggressive, rather than worrying about the spiritual realm it is mobilizing to control the world here on Earth, rather than campaign for it's "equal right" it wants theirs to the only way. I am not exaggerating this, look up what is being discussed in American politics right now. Atheists are coming out of the woodwork to protest this because whatever our personal beliefs we do not want to see religion forced upon anyone and we believe strongly in allowing a difference of oppinion and views.

Now grouping all Christians into this section that wants domination may be unfair, but atheists are also grouped into a lot of religion hating souless abortionists. It's an argument, a batle and you don't have to be on the front lines to feel some of the shrapnel, a lot of nasty things are being said by both sides.

The first step is realising where you stand, and then get ready. Because this isn't going to go away. Personally while I do stand with the Atheists I am not as extreme as a lot of them. But I do not beleive in the Christian God and as such I will argue for them against Christians that try to grind them down.

Sorry if my responses come off as insults. I think you're overgeneralizing.

I don't think your religion is built as much on lies as it is on falsehoods. I have no doubt that most of the people actually believe the superstitions.

You speak of the vengence and love of God in the same breath. We merely point out both sides, even though you like to pick and choose which parts you like.

We have told you that it doesn't matter what we think would make us believe. If there is a god, I'm sure he knows exactly what would and what wouldn't convince me. It's not up to me.

Also, I don't really care whether my responses upset you. I think that being upset about someone else's point of view is the first step in being interested in what the other person is saying. Even if it doesn't change the other person's belief, it at least gives the other person a point of view to consider. The more we consider other people's point of view, the more we come to understand each other. In the long run, that will make more people less upset.

I know that I probably won't change your mind, and you won't change mine. However, our ideas are both out there now, and others can judge, for themselves, which arguments hold more weight. Right now, I'm in the minority. As such, I have a great stake in having others understand my point of view. What others do does affect me. So, even if I can't make you come around to my side, I can at least get you to understand me. That goes a long way to having you treat those with other beliefs with the respect they deserve.

The "real point" is to get you to examine why and what you believe. Most christians have never even heard of the first council of Nicaea or realize that event 300+ years after the supposed crucifixion of Christ was the first time any gospel of the bible was put in writing.

Basically, you are choosing to believe what the Roman Emporer Constantine and a bunch of men wearing dresses and funny hats told you to believe in 348A.D.

Do you really think that is a smart choice??

"Atheists pay attention!"

Yes Ma'am! Right away Ma'am!

"I for one will never change my mind and by the shear number of atheists comming back time and time again for no purpose at all rather than to get us upset"

That is a rather bigoted assumption about why atheists (AND christians) hang around here. I also will not likely change my mind (note that I do not preclude ever changing my mind) but if what you say is true why do christians insist on asking dumb questions about evolution? It is not about building a rational argument for them; it's about trying to demolish evolution, which is as stupid as trying to disprove gravity.

If the questions bother you don't answer them and choose other ones. Case closed.

Pay attention? Im sorry My Attention Deficit Disorder is acting up? did i miss something important?

No to the poster above me it goes this way: The point is for believers to ridicule nonbelievers. It's the mentality of a bully. He has nothing to offer but his fists, so he punches.

Oh and most atheists are ex christians, im not an atheist, but I would rather stick up for an atheist than a christian any day.

One, you should not get upset. Two, they want you to "think!" Three, some are not out to change your belief! Four, some have actually gone to war defending your freedoms. So enjoy the circle. Read, Learn and observe. You never know what might happen. A miracle possibly.

You're right in a way. You hint that it doesn't make sense to argue in circles. But that's exactly what you're doing. The only way to stop this circle is for everybody to stop putting statements about his beliefs or non-beliefs. That means everybody.

The point is that while believers continue to "spread the word" and try to impose their beliefs upon us,we atheists will continue to try to get you to think for a change, use logic and realise that religion was made by man to control the masses
