The hereditary king who occupies the throne of David. Jesus was a direct descendant of David through his father Joseph and thus he was a Messiah. He wasn't just any Messiah though, he was the one who was sent as Messenger/savior to all who accepted him. His kingdom was not of this world and there was a descendant of David during the time of Jesus who sat on the throne of David and was the king over Israel. Now there is a king who sits on that throne today, on earth, a physical, hereditary descendant of David.

Mark 8:38, Psalms 89 and Jeremiah 33 express a promise from God that there will never be a time when there is not a king to sit upon that throne. The return of Christ Ez 43:1-7, Matt 16:27 and Isaiah 9 are about One who is a Messiah who takes the throne of David and a Messenger at the same time. Jesus was the suffering Messiah and the One mentioned in these verses is the redeeming Messiah.

Isaiah 9 "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called, 'Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

There are prophecies for two Messiahs in the bible.
