I have always wondered that also, I grew up with my parents not together and both having other families. My dad's side there would be 5 of us and on my moms side 7 of us. It would drive me nuts when it would show some trip with a trip for four and we would have to leave someone home.

Because "they" say the average family is made of of two children, here in the US anyway.
I have a family of 8 if I count my cats and dogs.

That's supposedly the "ideal family"..mother, father, brother, sister, dog named spot, and house with the picket fence!!!! Good luck to those people!!!!
