might be a variety of problems
obvious is not drinking alcohol before bedtime..
reduce fluid intake
then...might be apnea..have doctor run a sleep evaluation..in sleep clinic
also you might have restless leg ..also see Dr.
I have had sleep apnea a long time and had to wear a CPAP then CFLEX then Bi Flex ..could not stand these...i take a mild anti depressant in the a.m. also sometimes I take Lunesta if I really need my sleep..also XanaX if I get to up tight. I am a Nurse and I would not take these without a script but sometimes it takes a little more then hot milk @ bed time...maybe your bedroom is to hot or cold? or your mattress should be changed..there is select comfort and others that you could try
Use meds as a last resort.

My flatm8 has similar problems. He can't sleep at certain hours of the day and he keeps waking up at 12am for no apparent reason.
What I recommend is having spaghetti or the classic warm glass of milk to get yourself back to a normal sleeping pattern.

This may sound wierd and I do not know your faith but...God is trying to tell you something. The next time you wake up ask the Lord what would you have me to do...wait on an answer. Or just read the Bible. Your vivid dreams are his way of trying to get in touch with you.

You should try not eating after six, so your stomach isn't doing anything wierd while your sleeping. Also, drink some warm water before you go to bed (not too much, you don't want to have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night).

It could be caused by falling blood sugar causing the body to inject adreneline to compensate and thus stimulating the body. Considering a slow release snack before bedtime, oaty biscuits - stuff like that. My wife suffered similar wakeful periods and that was recommended.

if you drink alcoholic beverages in the night time, that will often cause one to awake around 2-4 a.m. If this is the case for you, try to cut down on the amount of alcohol you consume in the evenings.

In general people need 8 hours of sleep per night, so if you went to bed at 6pm, then it would be 'cos you've had 8 hours of sleep, but I don't know if you go to bed at 6pm.

if you are someone who prays it could be a call to pray. When this happens to me I know to get up, open up my bible and pray. Then after a short time, I'm ready to sleep again.
