In these times of great stress and fear forgiveness is often seen as a sign of weak character,we see on the news daily how one nation deals violently with another and how much the Gung-Ho mentality is becoming the standard of the strong society.
This is not the way we were created to live and forgiveness always builds up a people were violence rips them apart.
Usually getting our revenge on someone is prompted by initial anger and this is then fuel-led by stubborn self seeking to gain satisfaction, if we truly look at the cumulative effect of holding onto anger we can see that it always turns into seething hatred that is only ever destructive by nature, while forgiveness brings peace to the spirit and in most cases is a first step to reconciliation.
In summary then, forgiveness is the higher ideal and shows a strong inner spirit that the violent person does not have.
To err is human but to forgive is divine.

I don't think forgiveness is a weakness by itself, but I think that a philosophy that attempts to make forgiveness one of the priorities in a certain culture or society can make that society weak.

Whereas a philosophy that champions personal strength and pride makes a society strong.

No, if we forgive others then God forgives us. Also if you forgive then you wont be so sick. Holding grudges will make a person sick. I have seen it to many times. It isn't healthy. Also if you can't forgive a person, and that person dies. Then you regret it for the rest of your life because you didn't talk to them and forgive them, or they you. It takes a strong person to forgive. A wimp will never forgive. Satan don't want you to forgive.

In cases where the child molester is forgiven instead of being prosecuted in a court of Law, I call self denial, and aiding and abetting, shielding and protecting the perpetrater. Religion has taken this forgivness thing a way to far, and twice victomizes the victom.

No strength,
it takes a lot of strength to be able to forgive someone. Anyone can just harbor hatred and forgiveness. It take real guts to be able to forgive a true offense.

No. I have found it difficult to forgive at times....Why would it be a weakness....forgiveness does not mean you totally forget or ignore.

True forgiveness is letting go of anger that is only hurting yourself. It doesn't have much to do with the person you are forgiving.

Forgiveness is not weakness, besides it is something done more for your benefit than anyone else.

It is dropping the emotional baggage so you can travel lightly. This makes you stronger.
