Well, the French helped me to read books in French ( that is obvious ). Also, it helped me to get a job ( the interviewer talked to me in French, to see whether I really knew ). German, so far, not much.
At the present time, it is difficult to practice, but I try to practice French with my students from Haiti. About the German, I hope to take another look at it when I have time

You manage to keep them in your mid by using them as often as possible. I'm happy with having only Spanish and English. Although, when I was going to the university, they named the language department to Jeremiah Curton. The story goes is that he knew 72 languages fluently. Wow!!!!! talk about tongue tied.
Anyway, you have to use the language as often as possible. IT's the only way to remember it. Do things like find pen pals or maybe chat online. There is a awesome program called mIRC. Spelled exactly the way I typed it. Anyway, you can chat in any country you wish in any language. Another thing, read as often as possible. French is not really a popular language around here, but Spanish is everywhere.
You might also do as I do and answer any questions that pertain to French posted here in yahoo answers. That can give you good practice and keep your mind excercised. Also, you can visit Yahoo anwers in France by clicking on the French flag at the bottom of the page.

Well you need to create oportunities to use your knowledge of a language
for instance,
watch videos in french, or listen to music in that language,
read a book in the language,
all these little everyday things can help you to retain the knowledge.
and of course travel to a country that speaks french is VERY useful
if you live in america you van go on vacation to quebec canada,
its a very inexpensive way to use your language skills.

You will forget if you do not use it regularly. I used to be very good at makaton, sign language, using it everyday, now I have forgotten so much.
ways to try to keep it would be
get yourself a french penpal via the internet or my child has websites that he can go on and answer questions on time, number ect that he got from school in French. If you would like them my email is ghowson338@btinternet.com. He is at secondary school, so it is not low level

I use 2-3 languages on a daily basis, the rest when I travel or whenever I need to read/translate something.
