thankyou for those who answered, i think the best thing is to tell my husband not to let the children near them, he will probably think i am being over the top, but until this bird flu has been illiminated (hopefully) i am not taking any chances.

The problem with any strain of the flu virus is that it has the ability to mutate or change into a different strain. H5N1 would have to change in order to become the cause of a major human pandemic. That being the case the consequences would be severe as we would have no immunity to it. The projections are quite interesting. In the UK up to 25% of the population would be infected with a potential of 325000 fatalities, 142000 of those being at the 2 week peak. There is a pandemic document at http://funerals.smfforfree2.com and this is how it would affect all manner of services but more interestingly the funeral profession.
it doesn't make very happy reading.

Avian flu affects ONLY birds, it's when the virus mutates into a human attacking form is when it becomes a problem. This is NOT a superbug human killing Flu, it is just simple flu. Flu only kills the very young, the old and the immuno compromised.
To safe guard your family from flu you need to be taking a small amount of a spice called Star Anise as a tea. 1-2 cups per day is enough to fight the flu bug.
It tastes quite nice like licorice (aniseed).

it is unlikely that any of you would get it at this time.

currently, the form of bird flu that people are worried about is hard to catch. the only people they are worried about are people who are in close, almost constant, contact with infected animals. for example, the people who work at a chicken farm if some of the chickens were infected.

what scientists are worried about is if this bird flu morphs into a form that could easily be transferred from human to human.

if you are in the us, you shouldnt be too worried since they havent found any infected birds here. if you're still worried though, i would suggest talking to your husband about why you're worried and that you dont think its a good idea for the children to handle wild birds.

As long as you don't french kiss a bird or inhale, you're OK.
