Man, is it ever. My Dad who was alcoholic (long time ago) said he was amazed that I overcame the food thing 'cause it's the one addiction that you can't just QUIT.
So you will need to find people who have been there, fought, learned a lot and recovered and speak to them, not on the computer, that's not good enough!
If you seriously need help, go see your doc. he/she may have some good info. or know what is availiable in your area. If you feel you need a medicine that curbs that insaitiable need (some really do help and are completely safe and then your body is used to eating a different way and you can do it on your own), ask but only through a doc, over the counter ones not good for this.
I did not get any of that help (people, docs, anything) and it took me half my life to now say I am healthy with my food and do not binge. I discovered that I was intolerant to almost everything I ate and it made me addicted to what was killing me. I am now studying nutrition and understand more about food and it's impact on the human body than my lecturers. I wish everyone could feel healthy and well all the time.
E-mail me if you like.
Seek help and stay strong.

YES, it is possible. Mine have been not only sugar, salt, but pasta. The only way to overcome it, is to practice self control. I just had to make up my mind to eliminate them as much as possible or at least cut back on them. Then after awhile I found that I could do very well without them and am not addicted to them anymore. But it's like an alcoholic, you can go back with just one drink, so best not to do so.
But if you asking about food in general, then again your just going to have to learn self control and keep busy to avoid food and don't keep a lot of food available to tempt you.

Well of course it is possible! Look at our obesity rate today! What else do you think caused it? The best way to over come a food addiction is to join a group to help you understand why you have this addiciton. When I realised I had a food addiction I joined Weight Watchers and they hleped me to see that food doesn't make me feel better when I'm down, it makes my butt bigger. lol Basically you need to find your triggers..what makes you eat, then tackle that issue. Good luck.

This is a popular approach to ABUSE of food. It is politically correct to claim that you can be addicted to food but this is like saying you are addicted to sleep or addicted to blinking your eyes. It is impossible to be "addicted" to something that your autonomous nervous system requires, however, it is certainly possible to abuse that autonomous requirement by eating things like nails, broken glass, rotten meat, too much fat, glasses of melted butter, etc. etc. To label the use of food as addiction makes it possible to punish people for something they have no voluntary control over, like telling somebody to stop breathing so much air. People with eating problems need to be educated on how to properly fulfill their nutritional needs, not given an excuse for something that is hardwired into every living creature as part of the definition of life itself, which would be the ability to consume materials and convert them to energy.

A doctor should arrange for the blood tests to get the insulin levels checked. High insulin can lead to a body needing to eat more, in an attempt to raise blood sugar levels. High insulin is one of the symptoms of pre-diabetes, so if there is a family history of diabetes, then this may possibly be a cause of an addiction to food.

Probably, mostly obeist people because they let food control their lives and if you watch shows like Dr. Phil or stuff like that (I don't watch those shows), you'll see why their fat from their stories. And yes, you can overcome your addiction by eathing these pills which I think your Doctor has to prescribe to you and basically when you eat it, you lose appatite in food making you not hungry all the time. I hope that answers your question :D

People become addicted to all kinds of things...food, drugs, sex, alcohol, gambling, etc. This is because they can't deal with the things going on in their lives. They use these addictions to numb the pain. When you go into rehab, counseling and a 12 step program...you learn to deal with these things in your life without having to use your addiction to hide.
