People answering are saying it was a practise in the PAST yet this is still done TODAY. I've studied Islam and have read quite a few books that aren't usually available to non-Muslims. I need to dig them out of my library so I can quote from them to stop those who support Islam from telling lies in these Q&As. Some of the books deal with what's considered 'clean and unclean' behaviour, and what can and can't be done before going to a mosque - they're very detailed and precise. I can tell you that intercourse with a child is NOT considered unclean, nor is fondling her private parts, though this can't be done by a man to a boy... however I've watched genuine footage of a Muslim boy being 'snogged' most inappropriately by a group of men during an Islamic social occasion, and can honestly say that Muslim children are NOT regarded as inviolate the way they are in non-Muslim cultures/societies.

ok, it type of feels some human beings answering this imagine Mohammad remains alive right this moment. he's no longer. That change into historic history, even as, in some cultures, human beings married little ones. There are some human beings conserving "that is their faith, and that is effective". no, its no longer. Nowhere in Islam does it condone marrying that youthful of a lady, and if it change into portion of the religion, that would not be effective. Mohammad change right into a prophet, and a familiar human being. He change into, i have self belief, the major split between Christianity and Islam. Muslims have self belief him, and Christians do not. As suggested above, he change into human, and did undesirable issues clone of the different human. also, some documentation and evidence that this really occurred should be effective.

I'm not a muslim....but the concept of child brides far precedes Mohammed, expecially in that part of the world. It was not uncommon in the 6th and 7th century, nor was it uncommon for girls as young as 12 or 13 becoming first time mothers. In fact, even as recently as the 1800s in America, girls, especially outside the cities, would be expected to married in their mid-teens. It is only the last century or so that the marriage age for women has risen to where it is. To apply modern day morality to 1300 years ago is simply silly.

I'm sure that Aisha's family was widely honored for having joined with the prophet's family by virtue of the marriage between Mohammed and Aisha.

Of the typical things that Mohammed is accused of, this bothers me not. That Mohammed was a deceitful liar, thief and mass murderer is far more troubling as the founder of one of the most followed religions.

Hey Miss,
here's the answer for your question.

The Prophet (pbuh) married Aisha (pbuh) on paper when she was a child. She was the daughter of his oldest and dearest friend.
However he did not live with her as her husband (sleep with her) until she was roughly 19. He (the Prophet pbuh) provided Aisha (pbuh) with gifts etc whist he was not living with her as her 'husband' which takes me onto the next bit.

This tradition of marrying girls at a young age is still practiced in many parts of the world today. Mostly due to either cultural or financial issues. For example if a Muslim couple get married but choose not to live together yet as man and wife for say another 3 years the husband by Islamic law must provide for her financially. So in many poorer countries marrying off your daughter (on paper) until shes in her late teens is seen as a positive thing. Not only do you not have to worry about her financially but if something happens to her parents she'll be taken care of.
It may not seem like a cool thing to us in the west. But the practice of casual sex partners for example is not seen as cool by people who ain't in the west. See my point?

Hope that explains it.

no it isn't true. he had 4 wives. the first one was 15 years older than him. the other three were younger. but not like nine year olds. if you have anymore questions ask me a bout them. are you muslim? how old are you? why are you thinking about if he slept with them or not?

Yes, it is true. But that was common practice in that time in history. When a girl got her first period and was therefore physically able to produce children, she got married and did so. Christians beleive Mary was 13 when she had Jesus, and she was engaged to Joseph, who had grown children, when she was 12.

Yes he did and that is why men are still doing this in those countries.

Did you also know that before this CHILD turned 9 years old, he was allowed to sodomize, touch her? These aren't considered sexual acts. It is only after the age of 9 are they allowed to actually have vaginal sex. AND any of these CHILDREN that men decided to keep for themselves, don't count towards the 4 wives that are granted to them.

How? You might ask can a full grown man do this to a child without damaging the child? He does damage her, he just takes the child to the doctor to be stitched up again. Pays a fine as if she is a "pet" and goes on his merry way. Sick.

How does that make you feel as a woman??

Thank God I was born in the USA!

that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).
